At Tiphereth-Camphill in Edinburgh, we are seeking a Full-Time co-worker to support adults with learning disabilities and autism who live within our Supported Living Service, grow their independence, and be part of our vibrant community.

Previous experience of working with adults with learning disabilities is desirable but not essential. What is most important is that you have a real desire to support people to maximize their independence, have a belief in supporting people to make their choices, and to do the things they want to do. The post will involve supporting personal care and safe people handling, experience of which would be desirable.

We are a Camphill community based on the edge of the Pentland hills in Edinburgh supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism in a range of day services, supported living, residential care, and social enterprises.

We are currently looking to recruit support workers to join our small team within Inclusion Alliance. The role involves supporting people with learning disabilities to be included in the community and lead an ordinary life. Your work would involve helping people to access educational, social, leisure, and work or volunteering opportunities in the community.

No experience or formal qualifications are necessary for the role, although a caring nature, positive attitude, and a sense of fun are important characteristics to have. New staff will receive paid training and undertake shadow shifts with experienced staff members during induction. We want new staff to feel ready and able to work prior to working on their own for the first time.

We have various vacancies available including part-time and relief/casual positions in various locations throughout Edinburgh.

  • Working hours are based between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday

At Upper Springland, we support adults with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, sensory impairment, and complex health conditions to live independently within their private accommodation on site, as well as providing care and support within Housing Support and Care at Home in the community. We have a Day Opportunities service on site which residents and members of the community access.

We have 2 exciting opportunities for experienced social care leaders to line manage our team of Support Workers within one of our residential services (full-time) & our Housing Support, Care at Home, and Day Services (part-time) all based in Perth.

Our close-knit team of Team Leaders help our support staff to provide 24-hour support 7 days a week, and they require a motivated and enthusiastic leader to join the team.

About the role:

You will be required to co-ordinate and supervise a team of support staff in delivering a high standard of social care practice, using a person-centred approach that reflects individual customer's aspirations and outcomes. As a Team Leader, you will occasionally work on the floor delivering direct care including medication administration, personal care, and moving and assisting. Meaning it’s not all about paperwork; you still get some hands-on practice!

A key part of this role is to coach, monitor, mentor, and develop the skill base within the staff team. You will do this by displaying leadership skills such as role modelling, decision-making, being an effective communicator, having a positive attitude, commitment, and confidence in your role.

As a Team Leader, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining a clear and calm manner whilst managing risk through assessment, planning, customer knowledge, and de-escalation, as required.
  • Helping to recruit, induct, and train colleagues and junior members of staff in all aspects of their work, including supervision, mediation, and personal development.
  • Managing customer activities
  • Health and Safety
  • Compiling and checking care and support plans
  • Management of medicines procedures
  • Liaising with families, health and care professionals, and social workers
  • On-call support

What you need to know:

Full-time vacancy - we have a set shift pattern, 37 hours per week, 4-week rolling rota, so you always know when you are working. Working a mix of early, back, and late shifts, as well as weekends and on-call, which are planned in advance, enabling you to plan life outside of work responsibilities.

Part-time vacancy - 22.5 hours per week. Example Shifts - Monday – Friday: 7.5 hours, 09:00-16:30 – three days a week, On-call Support – 24 hours a day – including weekends, roughly one in four. This role’s main purpose is to provide commercial contract support to the Legal and Corporate Governance Team which seeks to ensure all aspects of contractual and organisational compliance. We seek someone who can work autonomously, to lead on various contractual matters and who can work closely with procurement and operational colleagues on new and existing business. Additionally, the Paralegal may be required to support with ad-hoc projects and any commercial matters which may arise.

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Strong ability to prioritise a high workload and meet strict deadlines
  • Strong PC skills, in various packages, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel

Some knowledge and understanding of:

  • Third sector/local authority legislation (health and social care) and contracts
  • Public Contracts Scotland
