Job Title: ICT Server Engineer

Context

At ACNMW, cloud computing will allow us to consolidate disparate IT systems, bring process automation, and provide the foundations for our Digital Transformation. To begin this transformation, we’re seeking an experienced cloud and server engineer with expertise in the strategy, design, development, and implementation of large-scale cloud projects.

Main Purpose of Job

Manage the server infrastructure at the Museum to ensure it aligns with the Digital, Data and Technology strategy, and organisational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Work with ICT team to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions for the museum.
  2. Manage, monitor and maintain our incumbent, on-premise server infrastructure and cloud platforms.
  3. Troubleshoot incidents, identify root cause, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures.
  4. Oversee server projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  5. Communicate IT initiatives, priorities, and progress to key stakeholders within the museum, fostering collaboration and alignment between IT and other business units.
  6. Ensure the reliability, performance, and uptime of the organisation's IT server infrastructure, including cloud, physical servers, and databases.
  7. Ensure that the organisation's IT practices comply with relevant regulations and standards.
  8. Provide third line technical support to end-users.
  9. Manage Certificates and the security of the Server infrastructure.
  10. Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with third-party vendors and service providers, to ensure value for money.
  11. Identify where technology can improve on business efficiencies, through process and automation.

Job Specific

  1. Experience of architecting, designing, developing, and implementing cloud solutions on cloud platforms.
  2. Experience in several of the following areas: database architecture, business intelligence, big data, machine learning, advanced analytics.
  3. Skilled in using AWS and Azure platforms.
  4. Strong understanding of Microsoft Server Technology, and Hyper-V clustering.
  5. Knowledge of NAS and SAN technologies.
  6. Aptitude for analysing complex technical issues and devising effective solutions in a timely manner.
  7. Experience in budgeting for IT projects and managing resources efficiently to maximize return on investment.
  8. Ability to evaluate and negotiate contracts with third-party vendors and service providers.
  9. A strong understanding of information technology systems, including hardware, software, networks, and cybersecurity principles.
  10. Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools to effectively plan, execute, and monitor IT projects.
  11. Ability to lead and motivate a team of IT professionals, including setting goals, providing feedback, and resolving issues.

Core Skills

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or relevant industry experience.
  2. Ability to think critically, ask insightful questions, and approach problem-solving in a structured manner.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders and facilitate collaboration within the IT team.
  4. Thoroughness and attention to detail.
  5. Effective time management skills to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with colleagues from different backgrounds and disciplines.
  7. Commitment to staying updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure the organisation remains effective.

Desirable

  1. Understanding and effective use of Service Desk solutions. Experience of using ServiceNow would be advantageous.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Starting salary: Grade F £43,498–£45,980 per annum (35hrs) (Based on a full-time equivalent (37hrs) salary of £45,974 - £48,608 per annum.) Appointment will normally be to the minimum of the salary scale for this grade.
  2. Contract length: Permanent
  3. Contract hours: 35 Hours
  4. Annual leave: 27 days on appointment, rising to 32 days after 5 years of service, plus one privilege day at Christmas and 8 bank holidays (for full-time staff).
  5. Probation: The post is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
  6. DBS Check: Not required.
  7. All new appointments are subject to the receipt of satisfactory references, medical report and criminal conviction vetting clearance, plus proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
