Job description
About the role

At Tesco, we believe in the power of spending more time together, face to face, than apart. During your working week, you can expect to spend 60% of your time in one of our office locations or local sites and the rest remotely. We recognise that life looks a little different for each of us, and we always welcome a conversation about flexible working. Please talk to us throughout your application about how we can support you.

Our engineering team at Tesco delivers first-class engineering solutions to over 4,500 Tesco stores across five countries. We are responsible for setting standards and delivering innovation in the entire Tesco estate, including Retail Stores, Distribution Centres, Tesco Banks, and Offices. It is the skills and knowledge of our people that make us one of the leading retail engineering teams in the world.

You will have full accountability for developing technical standards from both a Tesco and industry perspective.

Working with stakeholders and technical suppliers across the group, you will drive innovative ideas, identify opportunities, and provide technical solutions.

Based out of Head Office at Welwyn Garden City with travel to stores and suppliers.

You will be responsible for

  • Identifying opportunities to develop and improve our equipment standards, including HVAC plant, Air Handling Units, controls, and infrastructure, with an emphasis on energy efficiency and low carbon technology.
  • Developing the annual business plan for new stores, capital replacements, and Decarbonisation programmes.
  • Cross-functional working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the Group technical standards.
  • Reviewing and understanding equipment performance, working with colleagues to identify and explore root cause issues and creating proposals that inform short, medium, and long-term plans.
  • Identifying ways to drive continuous improvement within HVAC products, delivering better, simpler, and cheaper solutions.
  • Developing productive relationships with industry experts, colleagues, and stakeholders (Retail and Property), energizing and influencing others to achieve great results.
  • Bringing technical innovation and new ideas to keep the business up to date.
  • Engaging with project teams to identify HVAC equipment solutions for complex sites.
You will need

  • A proven track record in HVAC applications with sound theoretical and practical experience of today's technologies across the sector. Experience with commercial and office building systems is preferred.
  • An understanding of the latest trends in HVAC equipment and new solutions.
  • An appreciation of the day-to-day demands of food retail and a passion for delivering improvements through change.
  • Previous experience of project design, delivery, and writing specifications is essential.
  • An up-to-date understanding of industry standards and relevant legislation.
  • A strong understanding of Health & Safety and how to approach specifications to deliver easy-to-maintain products.
  • Good understanding of other building services disciplines.
  • A proven track record of working in a team with strong communication and collaboration skills together with a positive can-do attitude.
