Human Factors – Safety Cases
Based: Remote – with some site visits to Barrow
Contract: 6 Months
£66.14 Paye or £87.27 Umbrella inside IR35

BAE Systems is looking for a Principal Engineer in Human Factors (Safety) to support site-based HF safety-related activities. This role involves both technical expertise and the development of junior team members, ensuring knowledge transfer and capability building within the team.

Experience:

  • Experience advising large projects on Human Factors (HF), particularly in nuclear safety cases.
  • Expertise in Hazard Identification (HAZID), Fault Schedules, and Human Reliability Analysis (HRA).
  • Understanding of nuclear site licensing conditions (SAPs and TAGs).
  • Proficiency in safety case processes, including Deterministic and Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA).
  • Familiarity with Human Error Assessment tools such as HEART and THERP.

The Job:
  • Develop and document Human Factors Integration Plans for specific work streams.
  • Ensure up-to-date tracking of Human Factors issues.
  • Attend and support Hazard Identification (HAZID) activities.
  • Support the identification of Human Based Safety Claims (HBSCs), contribute to the Fault Schedule, and provide Human Error Probability (HEP) calculations.
  • Conduct Detailed Human Error Assessments (DHEA) and assess operator claims in safety cases.
