HSSEQ Advisor - Process Safety (Job ID: 1764)

Employment Type: Full Time/Permanent

Reporting to the Group Head of HSSEQ, the successful candidate will offer technical advice and support on HSSEQ matters to personnel at all levels. A primary focus will be providing process safety guidance to relevant personnel and sites across the UK. The role ensures ASCO's operations comply with legislative requirements, HSE guidance, and approved codes of practice. Additionally, you will promote and oversee adherence to ASCO's Integrated Management System (AIMS) within all areas of responsibility. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Provide technical advice and support on HSSEQ and process safety matters to operations managers and staff within defined areas of responsibility, as needed.
  2. Monitor compliance with the standards outlined in ASCO’s Integrated Management System (AIMS).
  3. Build and maintain strong working relationships with client representatives across supported business units.
  4. Ensure that HSSEQ statistics and updates are communicated regularly and effectively to the workforce.
  5. Support the delivery of HSSEQ themes and campaigns across supported business units.
  6. Conduct regular site visits to engage with personnel on HSSEQ matters, deliver briefings, perform inspections, and monitor safety performance.
  7. Oversee incident investigations from start to finish, ensuring timely and high-quality completion. Support the Lead Investigator in conducting thorough and effective investigations.
  8. Assist in the commercial tendering process for supported business units by preparing high-quality HSSEQ submissions within specified deadlines.
  9. Perform and monitor site verification audits in supported business units, ensuring timely closure of all actions.
  10. Collaborate with operational managers to assess new and ongoing HSSEQ challenges and implement practical solutions to mitigate risks.
  11. Support the planning and organization of emergency response drills and exercises as needed.
  12. Liaise with relevant industry bodies and enforcement authorities to ensure compliance with operational HSSEQ requirements.
  13. Promote HSSEQ excellence through participation in client performance reviews and events, as required.
  14. Deliver excellent service and foster customer engagement to position ASCO as the partner of choice.
  15. Conduct HSSEQ inductions for new personnel when necessary.
  16. Fully endorse ASCO's "Stop the Job" policy and take proactive action in response to unsafe acts or conditions.

Minimum Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours)

  1. Strong ability to build effective working relationships with both clients and colleagues at all levels.
  2. Proven track record in safety-related disciplines, demonstrating a fair and consistent approach.
  3. In-depth knowledge of process safety principles and their practical application in operational settings.
  4. Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  5. Capable of influencing others, driving change, and introducing innovative solutions.
  6. Well-versed in HSSEQ legislation, audits, incident management, risk management, training, and behavioural-based approaches.
  7. Solid understanding of ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards.
  8. Experienced in accident/incident investigations.
  9. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant computer applications.
  10. Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  11. Ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure and within set deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Formally recognised Health and Safety Qualification i.e. NEBOSH certificate or equivalent
  2. Membership of IOSH or working towards
  3. Train the Trainer certificate or equivalent
  4. UK Driving Licence

Desirable Qualifications/Competencies

  1. Previous experience in a similarly challenging role, with oil and gas service industry experience preferable or a hazardous process safety related role
  2. Certificate of Process Safety Management
  3. Knowledge of Dangerous Goods legislation
  4. A recognised Security and Environmental qualification
  5. Experience of working directly for demanding clients in a similar role
