Your Role
The Formula E HSE team are a core function in the safe and effective planning and operation of our events around the globe. This international traveling role will act as the HSE Lead for specific races throughout the Championship calendar and, with the Support of the Senior HSE Manager, will ensure all events under their responsibility are delivered in line with our Health & Safety Management System, our Environmental Operations Management System, and to the high performance standards we hold the Championship to.
Key Deliverables
As risks arise during both planning and operational phases, it will be the role holder's responsibility to work with key stakeholders on implementing pragmatic solutions which eliminate or mitigate them to tolerable levels.
What You Will Be Doing
Event Planning:
- Proactively supporting Event Directors to define the event specific HSE concept and delivery, within the Formula E HSE framework.
- Prioritise HSE risks associated with an event through Risk Profiling and ensuring mitigations are planned and implemented.
- Review supplier and contractor RAMS.
- Conduct HSE reviews for new cities as part of the initial event planning.
- Plan and Implement the Environmental Operations requirements in line with the ISO14001 Management System.
- With the Support of the Senior HSE Manager, scope the relevant HSE procurement requirements for each race and work with the relevant teams to ensure the effective procurement and delivery of the services or equipment.
Event Operations:
- Act as HSE Race Lead at a pre-determined calendar of races, supporting other events as required.
- Prepare event safety, fire safety and evacuation and construction phase plans.
- Deliver onsite HSE management working closely with local HSE consultants.
- Assist with preparing risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
- Prepare and deliver event / site safety briefings.
- Liaise with our Sustainability Dept to ensure ongoing ISO20121 compliance.
- Guide the relevant teams on environmental management best practice.
- Monitor and manage HSE compliance on site supporting our local HSE Consultants.
- Attend the Event Control room as necessary to monitor and respond to event day HSE requirements.
- Undertake accident investigations and prepare accident / incident reports.
- Prepare post-race safety analysis report.
Financial:
- Support the Senior HSE Manager and the Safety, Security and Resilience (SSR) Director to prepare HSE race and central budgets.
- Create purchase orders and track invoices and payments.
- Work directly with Race Directors and Race Finance Race Leads.
- Rationalise race budgets and prepare post-race reports.
General business operations and training:
- Support with staff training by delivering in-house HSE training as required, delivering training to our local city teams, supporting staff selected to undertake formal training.
- Assist the Senior HSE Manager and SSR Director in the development of HSE management strategies for the business including the completion of our ISO45001 award and maintaining our ISO20121 award.
- Ensure relevant departmental processes and procedures are diligently followed and completed.
- Support the Senior HSE Manager with general operations including the maintenance and development of the HSE management system.
- Assist Departmental Leads to maintain HSE standards.
- Assist the Senior HSE Manager during external and internal audits.
- Assist with non-race activations, filming and demo events.
- Contribute to the preparation of policies and procedures, supporting the Senior HSE Manager and Safety, Security and Resilience (SSR) Director.
- Support our Logistics Team with specific risk assessments: dangerous goods, plant and machinery operations, race battery storage, warehouse safety.
What We Are Looking For
Experience required:
- Planning and managing health and safety and/or environmental aspects, preferably in events (including construction) and on an international scale.
Knowledge required:
- Required: Excellent knowledge of UK H&S legislation.
- Preferable, not essential: Knowledge of international event H&S standards.
- Preferable, not essential: Knowledge of ISO standards ISO45001 and ISO14001.
Skills and aptitudes required:
- Confident HSE Practitioner.
- Able to work independently.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Contractor management experience.
- Problem solver.
- Effective communicator with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
Professional Membership:
- Relevant level membership of a professional OHS and/or Environmental Management body (e.g. IOSH, IIRSM, IEMA or similar).
Personal qualities required:
- Personable, approachable, reliable, discrete, diplomatic and impartial.
- A positive, solution-oriented approach.
Educational attainment:
- Required: Minimum Level 3 H&S Qualification (e.g. NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent).
- Preferable, not essential: Level 6 H&S Qualification (e.g. Bachelor’s Degree/NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent).
- Preferable, not essential: Qualification in Environmental Management (e.g. Certificate level qualification from IEMA or similar or equivalent).
Circumstances:
- Able to travel internationally as required (usually for 2-3 weeks at a time).
- Able to work from the Hammersmith Office as required (3 days/week in the off-season, ad-hoc during the season when not travelling).
