Job description

Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor

Large Automotive Manufacturing Business

£35,000 - £40,000 per annum


An exciting opportunity to become a key integral part of a leading manufacturing business in Birmingham. As a HSE advisor, you will oversee, support, and advise our group on all matters concerning Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives, as well as to establish and manage their Group's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy, standards, and processes.


This is an extremely hands-on role which will involve being on the shop floor making sure the entire manufacturing and production environment is adhering to its HSE policies and commitments. You will have full autonomy of the HSE operation and need someone that is happy to manage the full 360 process.


Responsibilities will include:

Health and Safety:

  1. Develop and review risk assessments and actions for all operations and equipment
  2. Ensure compliance with statutory health, safety, and welfare regulations
  3. Implement health and safety policies, systems, and procedures
  4. Conduct regular health and safety inspections, walk rounds, and audits
  5. Provide comprehensive health and safety training across the organisation
  6. Advise on personal protective equipment (PPE) and deliver relevant training
  7. Stay updated on health, safety, and welfare legislation and communicate changes
  8. Lead monthly HSE meetings and liaise with external consultants
  9. Provide guidance and support to managers and supervisors on H&S matters
  10. Review and guide H&S investigations and corrective actions
  11. Monitor company processes for quality standards and continuous improvement

Fire Safety:

  1. Coordinate accident reporting and investigations
  2. Ensure compliance with fire safety policies and evacuation procedures
  3. Develop action plans for fire safety issues

Environmental:

  1. Manage and monitor the company's ESG Strategy
  2. Drive environmental management and sustainability efforts
  3. Ensure legal compliance and identify opportunities for improvement
  4. Integrate environmental considerations into policies, products, and operations
  5. Support recycling and waste management procedures
  6. Provide technical support for projects impacting the environment
  7. Implement measures to achieve ISO 14001 requirements and environmental objectives

Other Duties:

  1. Maintain NEBOSH (General Certificate) and Environmental Certificate qualifications
  2. Mentor key staff on health, safety, and environmental practices
  3. Build strong internal and external relationships
  4. Drive continuous improvement and challenge
  5. Ensure high-quality work and service delivery across all departments
  6. Implement policies and procedures compliant with corporate governance
  7. Ensure adherence to health and safety expectations by all employees and contractors

This position involves interacting regularly with operational, HR, quality, and engineering teams across multiple sites. It requires maintaining confidentiality and working effectively in a dynamic environment.
