Job description

Our client is an established, industry-leading manufacturing business in the Cramlington area currently looking to recruit a HR Officer on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.


Overall Purpose:
To assist the HR Director in managing, developing, and implementing employment policies and procedures for all employees.


Key Duties:

  1. To assist in the recruitment of staff, advising on mediums and methods, participating in the selection process, and ensuring full employment checks are conducted.
  2. To manage employee induction programmes and deliver sections of the induction programme as required.
  3. To ensure that company policies and procedures are applied accurately and fairly across the company to meet legislative requirements.
  4. To provide advice and direction to line management.
  5. To control sickness/absence levels through the maintenance and reporting from records. Analyse and monitor for any trends, and provide the HR Director with accurate statistics highlighting any problem areas and proposed actions.
  6. To assist in the introduction of Power BI as a reporting tool.
  7. To support and guide line managers in absence management practices, utilising the disciplinary procedures as appropriate.
  8. To manage and maintain the T&A system and the Personnel Management system.
  9. To ensure accurate HR administration and record systems are maintained in order to provide a reference basis for decision making on employee development, remuneration, and manpower planning.
  10. To take accurate minutes at Union meetings, annual pay reviews, and disciplinary hearings.
  11. To support the department's GDPR projects.
  12. To support community events (university and school career fairs).
  13. Involvement in strategic HR projects.
  14. Participation in health and wellbeing campaigns.

Key Requirements:

  1. Educated to degree level and ideally with a post-graduate qualification in Human Resource Management. Relevant experience will also be considered.
  2. A sound knowledge of HR policies and procedures is essential, together with a good knowledge of employment law.
  3. At least 2 years' experience within an HR department, ideally in manufacturing.
  4. A high level of organisational and planning skills is required, along with established IT skills in order to maintain and develop the HR systems.

The Package:

  1. £38,000 per annum.
  2. Mon-Thurs 9AM-5PM, Fri 9AM-3PM.
