About the Role
As a Specialist HR Advisor you will bring expertise in employment law and employee relations to join our HR team. This role will ensure legal compliance and contribute to creating a positive employee relations culture across the business. Additionally, while ER and Employment Law will be the primary focus of this role, you will further support the wellbeing initiatives in collaboration with the wellbeing committee, H&S, and the broader HR team.
The position does require some travel, based in our Telford office 1 – 2 days a week, with alternating travel to Prestwick for 2 -3 days a week, twice a month.
Key Responsibilities
Employment Law & ER Advisory:
- Provide expert advice and support on employment law matters, including disputes, contracts, grievances, and performance management.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and company policies, proactively advising the business on any changes.
- Lead and manage employee relations issues, including complex grievances, disciplinaries, and performance cases, ensuring a consistent and fair approach.
Employee Relations (ER) Support:
- Guide and support managers in managing employee relations cases, offering practical solutions to resolve workplace issues while fostering positive working relationships.
- Coach managers on best practices for managing performance, handling grievances, and addressing disciplinary issues.
- Support the HR team in creating and implementing policies, training and procedures that align with employment law and ER best practices.
Wellbeing Oversight:
- Act as a key figure in driving the company’s wellbeing initiatives in collaboration with the wellbeing committee, H&S, and other HR specialists.
- Ensure wellbeing is considered within your specialist area and drive a holistic approach to employee wellbeing across the organisation.
- Work closely with the wellbeing committee to shape initiatives but not directly carry out all wellbeing-related tasks.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Support the management and mitigation of HR-related risks, ensuring adherence to all legal requirements, providing sound legal and best practice advice.
- Maintain and manage accurate records of ER and compliance cases, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
HR Projects & Initiatives:
- Contribute to HR projects such as restructures, organisational changes, or company-wide initiatives, providing legal and ER support.
- Work with the HR team to implement new HR policies and ensure that they align with legal obligations and best practices.
Manager & Employee Support:
- Provide coaching and advice to managers on ER issues and employment law.
- Be a trusted advisor to employees, helping to resolve any concerns or disputes in a confidential and supportive manner.
Experience and Skills
- Proven experience as an HR Advisor, with a focus on employment law and employee relations.
- Strong understanding of UK employment law, HR best practices, and ER processes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex, sensitive cases.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and HR software (e.g., HRIS).
- CIPD Level 5 or equivalent HR qualification, or significant experience in HR advisory roles.
- Ability to collaborate with teams and work in a fast-paced environment.
