Position: Housing Assistant
Location: Hybrid (Kingswood Civic Centre & remote)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
DBS: Required
Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? South Gloucestershire Council is looking for a dedicated and proactive Housing Assistant to join our Housing Access Team. This role is key in providing vital support to vulnerable individuals and families who are facing housing challenges.
As a Housing Assistant, you will be responsible for setting up emergency accommodation placements, assisting with Housing Benefit forms, managing rent accounts, and ensuring that individuals access suitable accommodation according to statutory duties under the Housing Act 1996. You'll also have the opportunity to work closely with vulnerable groups and contribute to improving housing solutions within the community.
Qualifications: NVQ 3 (or equivalent) in housing or related fields, or relevant experience.
Experience: Previous experience in a housing or homelessness-related role is preferred.
Knowledge: Understanding of housing legislation, particularly Housing Act 1996, and the statutory duties to accommodate.
Skills: Strong IT skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills.
Personal Qualities: Compassionate, empathetic, and able to engage with customers sensitively, even in challenging situations.
