Have 24-hour managerial accountability for the delivery of mental health care and support to residents at the Crisis and Prevention House (CPH).
Ensure that the house environment is maintained to a high standard. Assume line management and budgetary responsibility for the CPH team.
Be responsible for effective clinical and managerial communication systems to, from, and within the house.
Provide leadership to ensure a high standard of care.
Ensure an explicit and consistent co-produced approach is used to inform and support how the CPH engages with people using the CPH.
Work closely and alongside urgent care and community services to ensure best use of resources and management of the beds at the house.
Support the development of the CPH to be prevention orientated, recovery-focused, and wellbeing informed in terms of staff roles, house function, and service delivery.
Support the integration of the CPH with community and third sector organisations/resources.
Main duties of the job
Provide clear managerial leadership to the guests and staff of the house, managing the daily affairs of the house to improve standards of care.
- Lead in the recruitment, selection, and retention of staff in the area.
- Co-ordinate bed management for the house, ensuring good planning arrangements for admission and discharge of guests.
- Ensure the house is adequately and safely staffed from within the agreed establishment by adopting a flexible approach to duty patterns.
- Ensure the efficient use of staff resources to meet identified needs and manage this within the agreed annual budget. Participate in budget setting with the Service Manager.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment, making efforts to reduce the numbers of Guests Safety Incidents.
- In the event of Guests Safety Incidents, ensure they are dealt with swiftly and in line with policy. Organise support to guests following incidents and debriefing of staff. Draw out learning points and areas for practice development.
- Investigate complaints, accidents, and Guests Safety Incidents in accordance with agreed procedure and prepare reports.
- Ensure effective communication is established within the house and external departments, e.g., regular staff meetings, attendance at House Manager's Meetings and CMHT meetings.
- Develop working practices between house staff and community teams to ensure joint working across services in the delivery of care to guests.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust, you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. Job responsibilities
- Ensure systems are in place for the safekeeping of guests' property and valuables in accordance with the Trust's guests property procedure.
- Actively participate in conjunction with other disciplines, in the formulation and implementation of house and unit policies as required.
- Ensure effective implementation, monitoring, and audit of all local and Trust-wide policies e.g., complaints, disciplinary procedures, sickness/absence, Health & Safety, and risk management.
- Aim to establish local resolution of all complaints, giving time to guests, relatives, and others to express their concerns and working with the staff team to improve services to residents.
- Provide support and advice to statutory and voluntary agencies in the community.
- Liaise with the CRHTT Manager/Consultant regularly to ensure a seamless service.
- Work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Trust's policies.
- Provide monthly reports to the Service Director/Service Managers e.g., activity levels, bed occupancy, manpower and expenditure, staffing issues, and any other information that is required.
- Contribute towards the business plan for the service.
- Counsel, advise, and initiate action where necessary in all matters related to staff wellbeing.
Person Specification
Education
- NVQ 5 (leadership & management) or be willing to undertake.
Skills
- Demonstrable experience utilising a variety of tools in assessing/planning care needs and determining risk.
- Demonstrate managerial experience and leading others in a mental health setting.
- Experience working in a crisis house.
Experience
- Significant experience working with women who have mental health problems in a community, residential, or inpatient setting.
