HMP Haverigg Plumber

Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Plumber in HMP Haverigg, North Lane, Haverigg, Millom, LA18. This role is based on-site. You will need your own transport due to the remote coastal, countryside location of this site, which is more than one hour from Lancaster. There will be a need to work 1 in 4 weekends but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

At Amey, we're supporting our justice client, His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons. By using our facilities' management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly. Plumbers play an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week (across 7 days when a weekend shift pattern is in place). Start and finish times are Monday to Thursday 08:00-17:00; Friday to Sunday 08:00-16:00.

You will be responsible for:

1. Routine and non-routine maintenance.
2. Fault-finding and identification of life expired equipment.
3. Check, repair and make good faults and life expired equipment.
4. Inspections, water sampling and risk assessment.
5. Mains water supply repairs.
6. Minimise wastage and continually improve processes.
7. Ensure statutory works are carried out on time and that work is compliant.
8. This role may include working at height and in all weather conditions.
9. This role will also support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
10. Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.

What makes this role unique is:

You will ensure all works are carried out to the highest safety standards and to the agreed method statements. Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).

We want to hear from you if you have:

1. Full driving licence.
2. Appropriate Trade qualification (Level 3).
3. Experience in operating light plant.
4. Ideally, you will be qualified to NVQ level 3 in Plumbing and Heating with experience in plumbing maintenance. However, we may consider applications if you have NVQ level 2.
5. It would be desirable if you have Legionella Control (L8) and experience in a commercial environment to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
