Job description

We are seeking an experienced High Voltage Maintenance Delivery Manager to be based at our Beckton or Hampton Sewage Treatment Works, depending on your location.

As the successful candidate you will lead a team of Electrical Engineers/Senior Authorised Persons, providing operation, maintenance and fault-finding activities on the high voltage and primary low voltage systems. This would include the overall responsibility to ensure that the installation of significant electrical assets is controlled by adequate arrangements for construction, commissioning and hand over, by the TWUL asset standards.

At Thames Water, we operate a significant number of high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical power networks. These important electrical assets are central to the water production and waste treatment process for our 16 million customers.

To maintain the safe and reliable operation of these critical electrical assets, a high level of knowledge and skills is required in the application of electrical technology, electrical safety procedures and an understanding of the importance of providing expert support to the core process operations. The teams actively involved in the frontline operation and maintenance of the electrical assets require a continuous level of technical support in delivering essential maintenance, investigating faults, implementing solutions, delivering asset upgrade programmes and investigating unsafe or undesirable incidents.

The effectiveness and success of this role would require frequent engagement with the key stakeholders from Operations, Engineering, Capital Delivery and Health Safety and Wellbeing functions.

What you’ll be doing as the High Voltage Maintenance Delivery Manager

  1. Maintenance, Management of planned and defective maintenance.
  2. Planned and completed defective maintenance, updated records, and produced reports.
  3. Frequent engagement with Framework contractors to ensure a safe and highly efficient work standard is maintained.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement: Frequent engagement with the business stakeholders from Operations, Engineering, Capital Delivery and Health Safety and Wellbeing functions to ensure the needs are understood and against which, the work of the team is aligned.
  5. Asset Planning and Capital Delivery: Ensure a timely input and liaison support to high voltage or complex low voltage asset upgrade schemes.
  6. Accountability for the delivery of directly managed capital programmes by the team.
  7. Investigation of faults, provide leadership in ensuring that serious electrical system failures or unsafe event investigations are carried out and reports are produced.
  8. Maintain the out-of-hours support rota area coverage.
  9. Provided technical leadership in resolving plant issues and improving reliability. Including fault response.
  10. Asset surveys and assessments: Lead in the provision of technical support resources to engage and advise on the operation and maintenance of electrical systems. Provide input to the risk management process.
  11. Coaching and Mentoring: Coach and mentor the team in preparation for appointment as Authorised Person and improved technical competence by a development plan. Set out development plans for the team to advance qualifications, skills and experience.
  12. Work Planning & Contractor Engagement: Regularly monitor and audit contractor performance.
  13. Provide input to Framework Agreement review and bid processes.
  14. Review contractor electrical safety procedures and safe systems of work.
  15. Health, Safety and Wellbeing: Carry out regular safety audits at the site and with the team.
  16. Deliver safety briefings and presentations. Maintain a high level of team engagement with the Health and Safety reporting system.

Base Location - Beckton STW – IG11 0ad

Working hours: 38 Hours Monday- plus the inclusion to an out of hours support rota for which you will receive additional payment.

What you should bring to the role
  1. Degree, HNC, in electrical engineering or significant related experience.
  2. Formal training in The Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671.
  3. Training and appointment as a Senior Authorised Person.
  4. Significant experience in the application of electrical engineering within a large industrial utility or water company.
  5. Working knowledge of health and safety regulations and, in particular, electrical safety rules and procedures.
  6. Operational experience as a Senior Authorised Person.
  7. Engaging with operational management teams, contractors and other third parties.
  8. Experience in mentoring and coaching others.
  9. Delivery of high voltage electrical maintenance.
  10. Understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations and the application to electrical systems in the business.
