Job description

Location: Preston

Salary: GBP41,600 per annum

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm / 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

A reputable general haulage company in Preston is seeking a skilled HGV Mechanic to join their team. This role involves hands-on maintenance of the fleet of vehicles. The ideal candidate will have the technical expertise necessary to maintain a small fleet of HGVs and ensure their reliability and safety.

Essential Skills:

  1. Level 3 qualification for vehicle sign-off is required.
  2. Proven experience in HGV maintenance.
  3. Ability to work independently without managerial oversight.
  4. Class 1 driving license is desirable, but not mandatory.
  5. Strong knowledge of vehicle systems is essential, with HGV experience being a top priority.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage and maintain a fleet of HGVs.
  2. Conduct regular services, MOT preparation, and six-weekly vehicle inspections.
  3. Perform ad-hoc repairs and routine maintenance.
  4. Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with health and safety standards.
  5. Diagnose mechanical issues and perform inspections on rigid HGVs.
  6. Maintain accurate records of all services and repairs.
  7. Sign off work and documentation (Level 3 qualification required).
  8. Implement preventative maintenance routines.
  9. Safely use all tools and equipment.
  10. Accurately interpret outputs from vehicle diagnostic equipment in line with manufacturer guidelines.
  11. Follow standard operating procedures and ensure documentation is fully completed.
  12. Diagnose and rectify any faults that arise.
  13. Identify and order parts as necessary.
