HIOW Healthcare is looking for an enthusiastic, capable & caring individual to join our Community Nursing Team in Southampton as a Health Care Support Worker.

If successful, you will be working as part of the community nursing team based at Bitterne Health Centre. Community nursing provides care & treatment for adults with complex health & care needs. You will be lone working but part of a supportive team. Full Time 37.5 hours per week.

Candidates will ideally possess an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent; full training will be provided to enable you to fulfil your role, including training sessions, online, and working 1:1 with clinical staff. Main duties of the job

The role includes:

  1. Wound care - chronic & acute
  2. Prevention, identification & management of pressure ulcers
  3. Administration of medications, including some injectable
  4. Continence care
  5. Supporting end of life care
  6. Working with health & social care teams

Health Care Support Workers are vital in helping us provide essential care & support to our patients to help them remain well & at home.

Community Nursing covers from 0830-2200, 7 days a week. Shift patterns include 0830-1630 & 1400-2200, with an expectation of working 1 in 4 weekends.

As a health care support worker, you will be part of a team who supports the delivery of nursing care to clients within their own home environment. Ensure that patients receive safe, individualised and effective standards of care by following care plans and treatment interventions as delegated by the registered nurse.

Qualifications
  • Healthcare qualification Level 2, 3 or working towards gaining an equivalent level.
  • Good basic education or GCSE in English and Maths.
Experience
  • Experience in either a hospital or community setting.
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to manage own time, plan and prioritise work efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to show empathy and deal empathically and tactfully when communicating with patients, carers, and clients.
  • Ability to act on own initiative e.g. responding to an emergency.
  • Ability to work independently when on visits, demonstrating sound thought processes for basic problem solving.
  • Confident in dealing with complex situations e.g. when faced with complex behaviour.
  • Knowledge of care and related procedures including clinical observations.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Shows flexibility and ability to work within a demanding and changing environment.
  • Basic computer skills e.g. Word, Outlook, System One.
