Job description

Healthcare Assistant - Millbrook & Mossley Medical Practice

gtd healthcare is one of the largest NHS commissioned Primary Care, Out of Hours & Urgent Care providers in the North West of England.

We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive Healthcare Assistant to work as part of our primary care team at Millbrook & Mossley Medical Practices. Both practices are part of the Stalybridge primary care network and serve populations of over 5500 patients combined in semi-rural areas.

The Healthcare Assistant will function as part of a healthcare team, assisting the senior clinical practitioners and operational teams. The successful candidate will have primary care experience and will aim to ensure the delivery of the highest standards of quality and safe, individualised care and will inspire trust and confidence by making a positive difference every time.

The post is 22 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between 08:00 and 18:30. You will be expected to work 18 hours at Millbrook Medical Practice and 4 hours at Mossley Medical Practice.

Monday 08:00-12:00 at Millbrook

Tuesday 09:30-15:30 at Millbrook

Thursday 09:30-13:30 at Millbrook

Friday 08:00-12:00 at Millbrook

Main duties of the job
  • Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure patients and carers are supported as appropriate.
  • Undertake a range of patient interventions (e.g. venepuncture, ECG, urinalysis, blood glucose, NHS health checks, diabetic foot checks, BP reviews and basic clinical observations) within the scope of Health and Social Care level 3 skills and competencies for patients as delegated by qualified professional clinical staff.
  • Undertake other designated clinical procedures and interventions following appropriate training and updates as per your scope of competence.
  • Prepare and maintain clinical environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions by ensuring clinical cleanliness and ordering, receiving and maintaining stock.
  • Act as a patient/clinician chaperone as required and undertake mandatory training.
  • Apply simple dressings as appropriate and in line with the dressings formulary and assist in aseptic procedures in line with scope of competence.
  • Work within existing clinical guidelines, policies and infection control procedures.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that patients are cared for in a safe environment and that privacy and dignity are maintained at all times.
  • Provide advice and information to patients, carers and their families.
  • Communicate in order to enable the delivery of factual and sensitive information within confidentiality guidelines to patients, ensuring all information is appropriately documented and reported as appropriate.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

Operational

  • Plan and organise own work schedule in liaison with senior staff working as part of the team.
  • Be responsible for checking, monitoring and ordering medical stock and equipment from an agreed list in liaison with meds management and colleagues.
  • To perform and record routine checks on vaccine fridge temperatures and quality control checks on point of care equipment.
  • Participate in all statutory and mandatory training and maintain competencies.

Communication

  • Communicate in order to enable the delivery of factual and sensitive information within confidentiality guidelines to patients, ensuring all information is appropriately documented and reported as appropriate.
  • Communicate in order to enable the reporting of information to the multidisciplinary team and other agencies as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate own role to new starters, colleagues and students.
  • Provide advice and information to patients, carers and their families where appropriate and in line with current evidence/information.
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure delivery of a coordinated service.

  • Report any concerns or incidents in line with relevant policy and participate in any investigation as required.
