Job SummaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen for Health care assistant position at Yarl's Wood IRC. We are seeking an individual who is enthusiastic, compassionate, flexible, and creative in their approach and can work alongside nursing staff and the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality and effective nursing support.
Yarl's Wood IRC is an immigration removal center with a total operational capacity of 410. This role is to work as a healthcare assistant as part of the Healthcare team, providing nursing care and support to residents and the healthcare team, ensuring safe working practice in a secure environment in accordance with the IRC and Home office rules, detention service orders (DSO).
Please note that the home office has applied restrictions to obtain clearance to work in a secured setting. Therefore applicants will only be considered if they have been resident in the UK for more than 5 years.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will:
- Undertake clinical observations, report abnormalities and document on System One accurately.
- Follow appropriate infection prevention and control guidelines in order to protect themselves, colleagues and residents.
- Assist in the provision of clinics including phlebotomy, ECGs and smoking cessation in line with their skills & proficiencies.
- Participate in resident screenings with healthcare colleagues.
- Maintain accurate, timely and legible records of resident's care, including data input and statistical information, as required.
- Contribute to the ordering, distribution, stock control and maintenance of Healthcare equipment and resources.
- Participate in booking appointments, assist in the scanning of resident's information and to participate in all aspects of Healthcare admin duties.
- Participate in health promotion events.

Person SpecificationEssential- Knowledge of clinical observations, reporting abnormalities and documentation.
- A good understanding of SystmOne.
- Knowledge of assisting with clinics including phlebotomy, ECGs.
- Knowledge of booking appointments and arranging follow ups.
- Strong communication skills, and able to escalate concerns.
- Previous experience of working within an NHS setting.
Desirable- Assistance with stock taking, ordering, and maintenance of Healthcare equipment.
- Knowledge of running or supporting with smoking cessation clinics.
- Ability to work independently under the guidance of the qualified nurses.
- Ability to conduct new arrival screenings under the guidance of the qualified nurses.
- Participation in health promotion events.
