Job description

Chet Valley Medical Practice has a fantastic opportunity for a healthcare assistant to join the nursing team, on a full or part-time basis, working between 30-37 hours per week. Working under the direct supervision of the practice nurses, and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, you will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience, skills and competence, requiring you to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Main duties of the job

The healthcare assistant will be able to apply their clinical skills and knowledge to carry out some of the following duties:

  • Undertaking new patient health checks.
  • Carrying out learning disability, hypertension and mental health reviews.
  • Supporting the practice nurse team.
  • Carrying out baseline observations.
  • Blood pressure monitoring.
  • Undertaking wound care, venepuncture (when trained), phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines.
  • Performing weight and BMI checks.
  • Performing ECGs as requested.

Chet Valley Medical Practice is based within the village of Loddon in our spacious purpose-built premises. We have a list size of 9,000 patients, and cover an area including Loddon, Chedgrave and the surrounding villages including Norton Sub Course, Hoverston and Surlingham.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Strong clinical skills.
  • Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post.
  • Experience within primary care or another healthcare setting.
  • Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
  • A qualification in phlebotomy/venepuncture.
