Job description
Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join our team 18 hours per week at Camberley Health Centre. As a Healthcare Assistant with us, you will play a key role. This role will include working under supervision, assisting, and supporting the Nurse team in delivering a high-quality healthcare service to every patient. You will have excellent communication skills and will understand the importance of communicating tailored advice and support.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities And Duties
  1. NHS health checks
  2. Phlebotomy
  3. Blood Pressure & Pulse Monitoring
  4. Urinalysis
  5. Requesting pathology tests: eg urine culture
  6. ECG recording
  7. 24 hour BP & 24 hour ECG Monitoring
  8. Clip and Sucture removal
  9. Diabetic Foot Checks
  10. INR Monitoring Clinics
  11. Give flu vaccinations and B12 injections upon completion of accredited course
  12. Assist GP with coil clinic
  13. Act as Chaperone when required
  14. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
  15. Accurately measure and record clinical measurements such as height, weight and waist measurements
  16. Administration tasks
  17. Ensure timely and accurate recording of clinical information and patient interventions on relevant electronic database systems (e.g. EMIS) and following business continuity plans if the electronic system is unavailable
  18. Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background and preferred ways of communicating.
  19. Provide and communicate relevant health promotion literature and lifestyle advice to patients
  20. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  21. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with IPC policy
  22. Work as an effective and responsible team member, supporting others and exploring mechanisms to develop new ways of working.

We are a friendly Practice in Camberley, serving a diverse community of approximately 10k patient list. With a multi disciplinary team comprising of GPs, Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Healthcare Assistant, Medical Administrator/Receptionists, Pharmacists & Pharmacy Technician.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
  • Phlebotomy Certification
  • Six months of relevant experience working in a primary care environment in the last two years
  • Care Certificate

Desirable
  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent

Knowledge Essential
  • Experience of working with healthcare professionals and/or previous experience in the NHS or social care
  • Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholder or individuals to meet specified outcomes
  • Experience providing advice/signposting
  • Experience using a patient clinical system such as EMIS
  • Knowledge of safeguarding interventions and an awareness of the Mental Capacity Act

Desirable
  • Knowledge of a range of local community groups which support wellbeing

Skills Essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels including with patients, carers, specialist services, GPs and colleagues
  • Good technical literacy with e.g. Word, Excel, and experience using a clinical system such as EMIS
  • Able to work independently and manage own workload
  • Able to build strong professional relationships
  • Understanding of social determinants of health and how these can be addressed with patients
