Health & Safety Manager

Job Overview

My client is currently looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join the team in their busy and evolving food manufacturing site based in the Caerphilly area. The successful individual will be responsible for ensuring the company complies with H&S regulations, creating a safe working environment, and promoting a strong safety culture. This role involves working closely with production, engineering, and technical teams to ensure food safety and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct and review risk assessments and HACCP assessments for production processes
  2. Implement control measures to minimise risks to employees, contractors, and visitors
  3. Act as Company Health and Safety Representative, devising and implementing Health & Safety procedures, Risk Assessments, and policies
  4. Be the main point of contact for guidance and support from H&S consultancy services
  5. Arrange and chair H&S Committee meetings
  6. Develop, implement, and review H&S policies, procedures, and manuals
  7. Maintain and oversee incident reporting, near-miss reporting, and root cause analysis
  8. Ensure fire safety, first aid, and emergency procedures are in place and regularly tested
  9. Promote a positive safety culture through engagement and communication
  10. Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and safety checks to ensure the business is compliant
  11. Report incidents to HSE where necessary (e.g., RIDDOR)
  12. Maintain accurate records of incidents, risk assessments, audits, and training
  13. Prepare reports for senior management on H&S performance
  14. Conduct contractor risk assessments and safety checks
  15. Implement control measures to mitigate risks related to machinery, manual handling, allergens, chemicals, and workplace hygiene
  16. Ensure business continuity plans include safety and risk considerations
  17. Review and maintain the H&S management system

Job Requirements:

  1. Experience as a Health and Safety Manager
  2. Experience working in the food manufacturing industry
  3. Must have NEBOSH (Certificate or diploma)
  4. Knowledge of fire safety and compliance, Asbestos control, Legionella
  5. Experience of undertaking Risk Assessments
  6. DSEAR
  7. COSHH

Salary & Benefits:

  1. Salary up to £45,000 DOE
  2. Full benefits to be discussed
