Initially, this is a contract role (minimum three months – full time) working alongside the newly appointed Head of Production & reporting directly to the Managing Director, as you will conduct a comprehensive appraisal of the Business to ensure that legislation is adhered to and complied with in order to manage the planning, implementation, monitoring and reviewing of their health, safety and environmental strategies.

You will undertake inspections, carry out investigations, creating responsibilities & processes for the record keeping and documentation of procedures and case reports.

Key Processes:
  1. Ensure that all personnel are fully aware of HSE policies and procedures, including site inductions for the business.
  2. Be aware of new or existing safety legislation, approved codes of practice, guidance notes, and government reports and implementing best practice.
  3. Promote guidance, advice, understanding and compliance across the Company with requirements in COSHH, Manual Handling, PPE, DSE, Environmental, Waste Management, Health and Hygiene standards and objectives.
  4. Implement corporate safety training policy as applicable to the needs and requirements of the business.
  5. Plan and ensure that audits are carried out to establish that the company meets current legislative requirements, and its own HSE targets.
  6. Develop and implement ISO14000 compliant Environment Management System.

Ideally, you will be Degree educated in an Engineering (or other related) discipline, with Chartered (IOSH) status and extensive experience in health, safety and environment, including NEBOSH and COSHH.

With strong strategic, performance management and leadership skills, you’ll have the proven ability to communicate and influence at all levels across the Business, utilising a robustness of character that can consistently drive effective change and a proven ability to be comfortable and effective working in highly pressurised manufacturing environments, with their ever-changing and often conflicting priorities.

You will be responsible for developing a coherent and consistent approach to health, safety, welfare strategy and service delivery, ensuring that risk is reduced, legislation is met and extensive improvements in quality and business performance are supported.
