This is a fantastic opportunity for a forward-thinking Health, Safety and Environmental Manager with experience working in a manufacturing environment. There is opportunity within this role to have autonomy and evolve Health, Safety and Environment at our Banbury site.
Main Duties:
- To develop and maintain the existing Health and Safety Management System which is based on HSG65 - Plan, Do, Check, Act.
- Develop, implement and regularly review site-based health and safety policies & procedures.
- Monitor compliance with local health and safety legislation and company best practices.
- Continuously monitor site health and safety performance and implement corrective actions when required.
- Carry out internal audits and inspections to verify compliance with company procedures.
- Ensure all site colleagues receive effective and relevant health and safety training which will include but not limited to; induction training, HSE awareness training, and managers training.
- Implement and show working progress to the UK & IE and where necessary the group health and safety plan. Develop, manage and monitor completion of a site health and safety action plan.
- Assist site with effective contractor and visitor management.
- Drive and lead a positive Health and Safety culture on site to enable site to achieve its H&S KPI’s.
- Develop and manage the site’s risk assessment register.
- Onsite management of Site EMS in accordance with ISO14001.
- Ensure compliance with the Packaging Recovery Note (PRN) system to ensure that VPK meets its obligations for the recovery and recycling of packaging waste.
- Advise on all matters in relation to Environmental queries & non-conformances.
- Monitor the environmental behaviour of site colleagues, contractors, and visitors.
- Liaise with the Environment Agency and other outside bodies.
- Maintain data on the Banbury site Carbon ‘foot-print’.
- Identify and coordinate environmental training needs.
- Identify the implications of changes in legislation or EA guidance, alongside support from external consultants.
- Carry out environmental impact assessments.
- Ensure compliance with waste regulations.
Skills/Experience Required:
- A relevant professional Health and Safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH diploma, NVQ level 6.
- Membership of IOSH.
- Experience managing health and safety within a machine-biased manufacturing organisation.
- The ability to train colleagues in subjects such as toolbox talks, IOSH working safely/managing safely (level 3 trainers’ certificate essential).
- Good understanding of the following risk areas: Asbestos, LOTOTO, Machine intervention, Risk Assessment, Workplace transport.
- Ability to develop and enhance health and safety expertise within the organisation, actively taking a lead in coaching and educating peers in improving safe working practices and improving safety culture.
- Must be a good team player.
- Must be hands-on with the ability to drive health and safety continuous improvement in a challenging environment.
- Experience in the management of the site’s risk assessment register.
- Develop and implement Safe Systems of Work.
- Experience of managing site EMS in accordance with ISO14001 (IEMA qualification advantageous but not essential).
