Health, Safety, And Environmental (HSE) Advisor

Baltic Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Permanent Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Advisor, for a client located in Newton Aycliffe. Our client is a European market leader in resins, operating as an Upper Tier COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) site. The site is committed to ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance. Their facility produces a broad portfolio of resoles and powder resins matching market requirements. Safety and environmental stewardship is paramount.

As the HSE Advisor, you will work closely with and report directly to the Site HSE Manager, providing essential support to maintain and enhance our safety culture and regulatory compliance. You will play an integral role in ensuring that health, safety, and environmental standards are met while also contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Advisor Main Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Support the HSE Manager
2. Assist the HSE Manager in implementing and monitoring site-specific HSE policies and procedures.
3. Provide support in maintaining and updating the COMAH Safety Report.
4. Participate in audits, inspections, and regulatory engagements alongside the HSE Manager.
5. Support the development and execution of emergency response plans and drills.
6. Conduct regular risk assessments and support the creation of action plans to address findings.
7. Monitor safe working practices, including permit-to-work systems and contractor management processes.
8. Assist with incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
9. Deliver HSE training to staff to ensure awareness and understanding of their responsibilities.
10. Support compliance with environmental permits and reporting requirements.
11. Contribute to initiatives aimed at reducing the site's environmental impact.
12. Assist in monitoring waste management processes and environmental control systems.
13. Help ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including COMAH, Health and Safety at Work Act, and Environmental Protection Act.
14. Maintain accurate records of HSE-related activities and documentation.

Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Advisor Applicants:

Essential:

1. NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, with a desire to progress to the NEBOSH Diploma (support will be provided).
2. A willingness to grow and develop within the HSE field, demonstrating a proactive and enthusiastic approach.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and influence others.
4. A practical and hands-on approach to health, safety, and environmental management.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic HSE management systems.

Desirable:

1. Experience in a high-hazard environment (e.g., COMAH, chemical, oil & gas, manufacturing).
2. Knowledge of process safety principles (training and development will be provided if not already experienced).
3. Familiarity with hazardous substances and relevant regulations such as DSEAR.
