NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. This is a fixed term position of 12 months.
The shift pattern for this position is Mon – Thurs 8-4, Fri 8-3.30.
The post holder will be part of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s Prison Health Care Health Improvement Team and will be responsible for the delivery and ongoing development of peer mentor programmes and Alcohol and Drug Harm Reduction service currently being delivered in the prisons in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
The post holder will deliver a range of health related trainings to the peer mentors through structured sessions on a one to one or group basis. The post holder will also be required to support the promotion of the full suite of programmes delivered by the Prison Health Improvement Team which include Quit Your Way cessation services and Mouth Matters Oral Health Improvement service. The post holder will also be required to support the delivery of any other relevant topics identified by service management.
The post holder will have a health related first degree, an equivalent professional qualification or experience with a working knowledge of health inequalities and improvement issues. In addition, a working knowledge of a prison environment would be beneficial. The post will be primarily based within HMP Barlinnie but there will be a requirement to work across all 4 prison sites.
The post requires good organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously. The post holder should have comprehensive knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Office Packages and have a good command of verbal and written English. The post is 37 hours with a shift pattern between Monday - Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm. The post holder may be required to work out with these times to meet the exigencies of the service. There will be an information session available to share some background on the post and where it sits in the Health Improvement Team, attendance is mandatory to progress to the face to face interview stage.
