Job SummaryWe are currently looking to recruit a Band 3 Health care support worker in Hafod Y Wennol. We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated person with experience of working with people with learning disabilities, mental health issues, behaviours which challenge, complex health needs and often a forensic history. Previous experience in a similar area of work will be beneficial, with knowledge and experience of implementing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) with individuals who may present with complex behaviours that challenge. Hafod Y Wennol is an assessment and treatment unit, which offers care to people with acute mental health or behavioural needs. The aim is for a short-term admission working alongside the multi-disciplinary team to assess and implement treatment plans to enable the person to be well enough to return to their community.
Main duties of the jobThe ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude towards supporting people with challenging behaviour and experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment. Candidates would assist in the provision of both personal and health care, contributing to comprehensive treatment plans for each individual. Candidates would support individuals to access meaningful activities and recognise early warning signs that require care plan intervention. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate commitment to developing their skills.

Job DescriptionJob responsibilitiesYou will deliver safe, high-quality, compassionate care following individualised care plans and treatment interventions determined by the Registered Practitioner. This will include supporting patients with all aspects of the fundamentals of care, including activities of daily living, and providing feedback on progress against the plans. You will communicate effectively with patients and relatives in a manner which is sensitive to patients, carers and relatives needs. This includes communicating effectively with patients who may have sensory impairment, speech and language.

- Evidence of maintaining their personal development, demonstrates an understanding of the scope of the role in the context of the nursing team.
- Evidence of working within specialist care setting. Knowledge and understanding of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales
- Knowledge of the fundamental's aspects of care and the importance of the promotion of health and wellbeing, understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements, Understands the principles of confidentiality, and principles of consent prior to undertaking care behaviour and wellbeing/mental requirements health or learning disability requirements
- Understands the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, understanding of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate registered professional for expert help and advice, Understanding of the Health Board's Values and Behaviour Framework
Desirable- Evidence attendance at courses / study days pertinent to speciality e.g. working within the community/forensic Mental Health patients who have required a minimum of Medium Secure Care Services etc
- Understanding of caring for individuals with particular conditions; for example, dementia, mental illness, learning disabilities relevant to area of practice
- Evidence of competence assessment in administration of Naloxone
Essential Experience- Significant experience of working as a Healthcare Assistant within patient groups relevant to area of practice e.g. Adult, Children, Acute, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities etc
Desirable- Previous relevant experience in specialty
Essential Aptitude and abilities- Adhere to and can demonstrate SBU Values & Behaviours
- Caring, compassionate attitude to patients and clients Able to communicate effectively with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team, Able to undertake specific procedures involving physical skills commensurate with practice area e.g. recording of vital signs, venepuncture
- Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety. Ability to deal with non-routine and unpredictable nature of the workload, prioritise workload and individual patient contact
Desirable- Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
