Job description

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join our existing dedicated friendly team of staff within Seddon Suite at St Helens Hospital. We are looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic and can demonstrate effective communication skills and ideally have previous rehabilitation experience.

Seddon Specialist Rehabilitation Unit is a 20 bedded purpose-built facility based in Elyn Lodge, St Helens hospital. The pathway encompasses designated units offering different levels of high quality rehabilitation within the Hyper Acute, Hub, Spoke and Extended Rehabilitation Units and within specialist community and outpatient services, providing specialist assessment and rehabilitation for those who have suffered traumatic injury or illness.

The post holder may be required to work across both Whiston and St Helens sites and must be flexible in working all shifts Monday to Sunday and rotation to night duty.

An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for the post.

Main duties of the job

  1. To work as part of the Nursing Team undertaking household support tasks and direct care tasks as delegated by the Nurse in Charge.
  2. To support the qualified Nursing Staff in the maintenance of high standards of nursing care to patients.
  3. To assist in providing an environment within the ward that is conducive to patient recovery and pleasant for patients and their families.
  4. To accept responsibility for specifically delegated functions within the ward which the Nurse in Charge feels are appropriate for untrained staff to undertake.
  5. To ensure where entries are made in nursing documentation, that these are correct, legible and comprehensive and countersigned by a registered nurse.
  6. To understand and adhere to all Trust Policies.
  7. To ensure the Health and Safety of patients, relatives and other staff is considered and not prejudiced by the post-holder at any time.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancs, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

  5. To present an appearance which gives a positive image of the Trust and a manner which is appropriate and which inspires confidence.
  6. To participate in an annual performance review undertaken with the Ward Manager to identify personal development needs.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure patient records are kept up to date and accurate and recording is done in line with Trust policies and procedures.

TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
To attend specifically fire and lifting and handling lectures annually and ensure appropriate updates are attended once H.C.A. training is complete.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

  1. NVQ Level 2 (Ideally in Health Care) or equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience.
  2. Care Certificate, or willing to work towards upon appointment.

Knowledge & Experience Essential

  1. Previous experience of acute health care setting.
  2. Previous experience in the provision of direct patient care.
  3. Previous experience within a customer service environment.

Skills Essential

  1. Excellent communication skills.
  2. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team.
