As a member of the Millie college staff team, you will provide a high standard of health and social care to a student or group of students to enable them to achieve their maximum potential. You will cooperate closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies. This role will involve working 1:1 or 2:1 with a student as well as working in a group over communal activities.
- Work within the framework of the mission statements, aims, policies, and procedures of Shaftesbury and Millie College while supporting the Christian objectives of the organisation.

Main Duties
Clinical:
- Implement existing health care programs to enable students to live as independently as their disability allows, while retaining their individuality, dignity, and respect.
- Implement care/health action plans in partnership with the student, family, and carers, while working closely with other health professionals.
- Liaise daily with the Care Lead regarding the welfare and appropriate services for the student(s).
- Promote self-care and independence where appropriate and prepare the student for independent living whenever possible.
- Maintain safe medication storage, recording, and administration in accordance with NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) medicines management guidance documents.
- Monitor and evaluate standards of care and report to the Care Lead as necessary.
- Monitor and evaluate daily personal documentation as required (e.g., Fluid balance charts, bowel charts, weight charts).
- Work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that each allocated student has a healthy, well-balanced diet, management of incontinence, and other independence training as agreed with the Care Lead.
- Communicate with the Senior Team if a student becomes ill and requires emergency services or transfer to hospital.
- Report and record all incidents using the incident reporting system. If a student has an accident or an incident occurs, support the referral to GP or Hospital as required, via the Leadership Team and using safeguarding processes. Provide daily communication to students’ families as directed.
- Maintain medical equipment to conform with Health and Safety legislation and Infection Control. Maintain stock control.
- Contribute to the implementation of different stages of all acute and progressive care plans.
- Report and document relevant health care activities in designated daily/periodical logs.
- Obtain and record vital signs as necessary/indicated in appropriate logs.
- Use a range of communication strategies to support communication with students with a range of complex needs.
- Undertake other duties when required, such as supporting students in class settings, taking lead from Tutor/Co-Tutor.
- Understand and support all aspects of the Enterprise, Curriculum, and Future pathways.
- Assist students with eating/drinking during mealtimes and care during the lunchtime period, including those students with Dysphagia (training will be supplied).
- Support all students with Personal care as required. This will involve Moving and Handling (training will be supplied).
- Support all students with independence and Life Skills, including following plans set by the SALT, Physio, and Occupational therapist, under teaching and supervision.
