Job description

About the role: Health & Safety Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety Officer to ensure Activate Learning's adherence to health and safety regulations across our Surrey Campuses.

Supporting the Group Health and Safety Manager in ensuring legislative compliance for college activities, you will conduct health and safety inspections/audits, promote a positive culture towards H&S, and provide training to employees across the group. You will be the key contact for H&S related queries across our 3 Surrey Campuses and will be visible at them all.

As the Health & Safety Officer you will have experience in Fire Safety, Risk Management, COSHH, DSE and various other H&S related regulations. As the link between the H&S team and the Surrey group you will be the main point of contact liaising and advising all staff groups.

Maintaining an awareness of current and forthcoming H&S legislation, you will audit our compliance against this with regular inspections and spot checks, and alert appropriate managers of the remedial actions required to keep abreast of our responsibilities. This will include training and supporting staff and senior management to maintain compliance in their areas.

This is a permanent, full-time role and weekly travel will be required between our campus locations across Surrey, with a base campus within the Surrey group to be decided upon recruitment. Some support and travel at our other colleges may occasionally be required.

What do you need to be successful as a Health & Safety Officer at Activate Learning?

Applicants for this role must have the following qualifications or equivalent:

  • Level 3 NEBOSH Certificate
  • TechIOSH grade of a H&S professional body

Alongside these you must have relevant experience from the sector, of H&S training and of achieving performance targets against deadlines.

Ideally candidates would have the following or comparable qualifications, or be willing to work towards them:

  • Teaching qualification
  • First aid trainer
  • H&S trainer

Alongside this experience of CDM regulations, radiation safety and agricultural H&S is desirable.

You should also be familiar with producing reports and presentations, investigating accidents and accident prevention, as well as strong interpersonal and IT skills.
