Job description

Exciting new shepherding role available in Lincolnshire.

Highlander and NZ Romney ewes play a key role in our Regen Farming System.

We are a large arable business in Lincolnshire with integrated sheep and beef enterprises.

The Role –

The Head Shepherd will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of our 850-ewe sheep enterprise. The role will include undertaking daily sheep checks, as well as lambing, tailing, vaccinating, tagging, and weaning. Contract crutching/shearing and scanning are made available.

The position involves working closely with the owner to organise grazing and labour requirements on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

The sheep are outside all year round, so the applicant must be used to working with Rappa (or equivalent) temporary fencing. Grazing consists of summer catch crops, winter cover crops, and herbal leys. These grazing platforms are shared with the cattle enterprise, and the shepherd would be expected to work closely with the owner to discuss the grazing plan for both enterprises.

Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to plan their own workload and highlight when additional labour is required. Working closely with the wider farm team will also be an important part of this role.

The Package –

First-class accommodation is available on the farm, reflecting the importance of the position.

Land Rover Defender, fitted with solid dog boxes, is available.

  1. Salary to attract the best and will reflect experience.
  2. Training and staff development keenly supported. Opportunities to learn from leading soil health/regenerative farming advisors, etc.
