Head of Wholesale MGA, Aon Underwriting Managers (AUM)

We are looking for an expert business leader for an established MGA with significant growth potential.

The Wholesale MGA business remit is to design and complete a strategy to provide product and distribution solutions for Aon's clients using Aon's wholesale distribution channels, principally through London's Global Broking Centre. The successful candidate will be someone with a growth mindset, experience in crafting and delivering sustainably profitable portfolios to carrier and capital partners and has a strong digital ambition for the marketplace. As a member of the AUM Exec team, the role includes responsibilities in support of the wider AUM business in delivering market-winning client value and a great colleague experience.

About AUM

AUM is a well-established, vibrant and successful in-house MGA business with a focus on underwriting a broad range of fully delegated, tracker and follow-form facilities for Aon commercial clients worldwide. AUM's primary distribution channels are Aon's wholesale and global retail broking networks with options to use third-party networks and white-label branding where appropriate to do so. Operating within the UK regulated environment, AUM partners with Lloyd's and Company Market capital providers with the aim of underwriting sustainably profitable portfolios for carrier partners whilst delivering best in class solutions for clients and brokers.

What the day will look like

As a member of the AUM Executive Leadership team, there are responsibilities across the business to ensure the best outcomes for our stakeholders. Carrier management, broker engagement, product design, business case review, supporting colleague development; this is a senior management role with broad influence. The commercial focus of the role is as the leader for Wholesale MGA business which benefits from some established products already and with phenomenal growth potential to respond to client requirements and technological change. Key stakeholders will be Aon's Global Broking Centre leaders, Lloyds and Company markets in London and an understanding of how the US and EMEA market operates. The role will be supported by a leadership team, and underwriting, claims, exposure management and actuarial capabilities. An important part of the role will be to help set and drive forward our digital underwriting capability to include the use of current and emerging technologies.

Aon Client Leadership
  • Helps set the growth strategy
  • Manage the business and monitor existing portfolio performance, identify emerging risks, and recommend necessary adjustments.
  • Collaborates with Global Broking Centre and Global Commercial Risk leaders to develop existing delegated facilities and new facilities
  • A key partner in driving through our digital and algorithmic underwriting ambition
  • Collaborates with internal teams and third-party partners (e.g., carriers) to ensure the best product solutions

Skills and experience that will lead to success
  • Market experience, in short or long tail business, with underwriting experience preferred
  • Multi line portfolio management experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Lloyd's market dynamics, regulatory environment, and industry trends.
  • Experience in exposure management and aggregate controls
  • Experience in the operation of delegated authorities
  • A change agent with a desire to modernise
  • Strong social and communications skills to lead a complex stakeholder network
  • Builds and leads inclusive and diverse teams
  • Motivates and inspires others, creating an environment for continuous learning and connection
