The Head of Supplies is responsible for supporting the Associate Director of Procurement in the planning, organisation, management and delivery of all Supply Chain operational requirements for inventory management across all Theatres, Wards and Departments, working in collaboration with the Trust’s Receipt and Distribution and wider Procurement teams.
The implementation and ongoing monitoring of KPI performance will also be part of this remit as will the implementation of measures that ensure planned performance improvement.

The post holder will manage the Supplies Team and Theatre Stores Team and will ensure that an effective and efficient service is provided to the end users.

The post holder will have proven management experience and be a professional lead, developing and implementing an Inventory Management Strategy. Acting as the lead on key continuous improvement initiatives, to improve the inventory management service including the development and improvement of standards (data quality), standard operating procedures and processes.

Develop and report against a suite of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), measure existing supply chain performance identifying and implementing remedies for those areas falling short of established targets. Responsible for the ongoing analysis of performance within the Supply Chain function in relation to targets and strategic objectives.

Conduct regular review meetings with key stakeholders to ensure that we are performing as expected and that any concerns are communicated in a timely manner ensuring the avoidance of service disruption. Investigate and implement service improvements with key stakeholders to deliver increased efficiencies and reduction of waste.

Undertake a strategic review of current work practices, leading to the development of a supply chain strategy optimised to deliver increased efficiencies and cost savings.

Ensure that the inventory management system implemented supports the provision of data required to feed the Trust wide Patient Level Costing System (PLICs) system that enables accurate measurement of clinical activity associated with each patient episode.

Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for new and existing inventory management and stock control processes/system developments. To deliver significant efficiencies by working with key stakeholders on improved supply chain management and the implementation of smart stock management initiatives.

Responsible for updating knowledge about system developments and enhancements. Inform and advise the Associate Director of Procurement and other senior managers as appropriate to ensure that relevant enhancements are introduced to enable and facilitate supply chain excellence through technological innovation and best practice. Keep abreast of developments in the procurement and supply chain field by communicating regularly with colleagues, reading appropriate professional and trade publications and attending relevant courses or exhibitions.

To deliver significant efficiencies by working with key stakeholders on improved supply chain management and the implementation of smart stock management initiatives. Continually evaluate ordering procedures with a particular emphasis on a cost-effective way of managing low value orders. Explore opportunities for collaborative working. Monitor the day-to-day running of inventory and stock control systems undertaking problem analysis and liaising with appropriate staff as required to ensure the integrity and accuracy of these systems.
