Head of Section - Travel and Tourism, Direct Pathways and Esports

The School of Commercial Industries and Access currently includes students on 16-18 study programmes and T Levels, adult programmes including access and part time adult programmes, as well as a substantial HE provision.

We are now seeking a Head of Section – Travel and Tourism, Direct Pathways and Esports.

The focus of the Head of Section is to ensure that current and future students receive a first-class experience that enables them to progress and attain their qualifications at high levels and to develop long-lasting learning and employability skills. Success is measured in terms of value added, meaningful progression in education and training and destination into higher education and/or employment.

You’ll become a member of the School Management Team and have collective responsibility for the implementation of the School Business and Improvement Plans, as well as contributing to College Objectives and Improvement Plans. The Section has a diverse curriculum area with programmes including Aviation, Cabin Crew, Esports, Travel & Tourism and Directed Pathways. The teaching commitment is in the field of Travel & Tourism, Aviation and/or Esports.

Responsibilities:

1. Hold a degree or relevant professional qualifications in an appropriate subject.
2. Hold a teaching qualification (or willing to work towards).
3. Hold a management qualification (or willing to work towards).
4. Manage, support, and develop staff.
5. Exhibit excellent teaching skills and be recognized as a good or better teacher on BTEC Travel & Tourism/Esports programmes.
6. Lead in a BTEC Travel & Tourism/Aviation/Esports curriculum area with a track record of making sustained improvements.
7. Participate in recent and relevant continuous professional development.
8. Have current knowledge of impending curriculum changes and their implications for teaching and learning strategies.
9. Understand quality assurance and improvement processes to enhance the student experience.
10. Have a strong vision for the improvement and development of the curriculum area.
11. Work with lower-level learners and successfully monitor and support ‘at-risk’ learners to achieve or exceed their potential.

The successful candidate will be eligible for any increase in salary as a consequence of the annual cost of living review that will be implemented in the new academic year.
