About the School of Social Work

Social Work is Excelsia’s newest school, established in 2020 and fully accredited with AASW until 2027. The School of Social Work at Excelsia delivers the Master of Social Work (Qualifying), the Graduate Certificate of Social Science and the Graduate Diploma of Social Science.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic looking to advance their career to the next level. This role will allow the right candidate to extend their professional and leadership skills including mentoring a dedicated and passionate staff team to offer an excellent professional social work program. The role of the Head of School ensures effective operation of Excelsia’s School of Social Work.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing academic and strategic leadership, direction and oversight, to the School of Social Work in order to achieve excellence in:
  • teaching and learning,
  • research and scholarship, and
  • professional and academic development amongst students and staff;
  • Ensuring the activities of the School of Social Work are operated effectively and efficiently, providing a quality experience for students and staff;
  • Building the profile and reputation of the College with stakeholders, the community and potential students;
  • Overseeing the School’s curriculum and its ongoing development;

Selection Criteria

  • Hold a PhD qualification in Social Work or another relevant discipline;
  • Eligible for full membership of the AASW with a minimum of five years full-time post-qualifying practice experience;
  • Hold a Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work (Qualifying) Degree;
  • Hold full Australian working rights;
  • An understanding of current and emerging trends in social work education and training;
  • Committed Christian, involved in a local congregation;
  • Proven academic and strategic leadership and high-level management skills, including demonstrated ability to plan, delegate, and provide leadership and direction;
  • Proven experience in leading teaching, learning, scholarship and research, including curriculum development and modification;
  • Ability to maintain and build relationships with prospective teaching staff to recruit qualified staff into the program;
  • A proven record of research, academic publications and/or professional activities;
  • Previous experience in delivering courses through different modes of delivery;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students, staff, and administrators, including skills in mentoring staff and supporting students.

This full-time position is based in Macquarie Park and is in the process of relocation to Pennant Hills.
