About the Role
At AMS, talent is our world. Our Insights & Intelligence (I&I) team are experts in data and analytics. Our purpose is simple, to understand our clients’ needs and use this understanding, combined knowledge, and expertise to find, process, and analyse complex datasets to inform talent acquisition teams. We value user experience and ensure we’re supporting people in making hiring decisions with intelligence they can trust.
The Head of Research is a recognised subject matter expert and thought leader within our industry in all aspects of I&I research. They will be responsible for design, delivery, and execution of our Global Research Agenda and the I&I research value proposition through a philosophy of innovation and competitive intelligence. They will partner with key stakeholders and leverage AMS aggregate data to enhance overall delivery, publishing data-powered market commentary and elevating AMS I&I voice in the external market. They will develop the latest thinking on market, industry, and labour trends to increase data-driven decision making, collaborating with clients and I&I colleagues to identify new approaches and best practices.
As the Insights and Intelligence function is established, the accountabilities and responsibilities of the Head of Research will evolve as the business matures.
Performance Outcomes/ Accountabilities
SERVICE INNOVATION / EVOLUTION
- Design, delivery, and execution of the Research Lab value proposition, including development and deployment of strategic roadmaps for Global Research strategy (eg global research agenda, data club content, AMS benchmarking, labour market commentary, etc)
- Recognised as thought leader and expert through regular client roundtables and events attended, demonstrating value added to Data Club members and strategizing specific research agenda for the external market
- Key contributor to AMS client account teams via I&I Partners, publishing strategic, targeted, and data-powered research aligned with I&I vision
- Development of innovative, new research methodologies and engagement strategies to elevate research publications and enhance AMS research voice in external market
PEOPLE
- Highly motivated and engaged team, measured by targeted year-on-year improvement in EVM engagement survey results, within the Research Lab team and broader I&I community
- Succession, development, and retention plans in place and actioned (as appropriate)
- Achieve annual % voluntary attrition target
OPERATIONS
- Works in partnership with I&I Partners and Data Strategy to design, build and foster a culture of consistent qualitative and quantitative standards in operational delivery
- Works in partnership with I&I Partners, AMS Marketing and Communications team, to design, build and drive publication strategy to optimise delivery
- Proactively identify holistic risks to delivery as a result of evolution of strategy and partner on early resolution with relevant stakeholders
- Support the MD of I&I in setting strategic direction for our global research agenda, actively contributing to the overall continuous improvement and elevation of I&I delivery to both internal and external stakeholders.
CLIENT / STAKEHOLDERS
- Strategic, trusted partner to internal and external stakeholders, advising on global research agenda and Data Club content strategy
- Facilitate regular client roundtables to present market trends, AMS benchmarking analysis, and strategizing specific research agenda for I&I teams
- Partner with internal leaders in new business activity
FINANCIAL / COMMERCIAL
- Financial targets met with any variances anticipated, signalled, and aligned resolution in place
- Design and deploy strategy to commoditise / commercialise data club content and other Research Lab outputs, increasing and meeting financial targets set YOY
Key Responsibilities and Activities
- Provide thought leadership, and market insight around global research agenda topics to create service innovation roadmap, identifying opportunities to evolve market leading publications and content
- Partner with the I&I leadership team to provide Data Club content and insight that will enable clients to be successful in data-related initiatives
- Partners with I&I Leadership team, Sales and Growth teams to understand client priorities and trends to inform Research Lab roadmap
- Partners with the Digital, Technology and Transformation Leadership Team and Data Strategy team on development of technology roadmap and innovation opportunities related to AMS aggregate datasets and analysis, including AMS One as appropriate
- Role model AMS leadership behaviours
- Lead and manage a small team of Data Science, Labour Economist, and Research experts supporting Research Lab activity
- Support the development of AMS talent for the future through a robust methodology for hiring, performance management, continuous development, wellbeing, inclusion, engagement and retention - make I&I a great place to work
- Build a culture within the Research Lab team which builds pride in I&I and the value it creates. Act as an advocate for this across AMS and Client base
- Act as a role model at all times in building collaborative partnerships that work effectively across a heavily matrixed structure, enhancing AMS’ reputation within the business
- Champion the adoption of new services and technologies in I&I and wider AMS
- Partner with the I&I leadership team to contribute to the delivery of services at required contractual levels (eg Data Club content)
- Deploy CI, Operational Excellence or other transformation programmes within I&I ensuring alignment with broader AMS strategy and recommendations including process reviews, ways of working, tools, and techniques. Documentation of changes, issues, and proposed change impact
- Build strong and influential relationships with external client stakeholders and industry leaders with business opportunity including leading client roundtables and attending / speaking at external industry events
- Contribute to and participate in RFPs, pitches, and workshops with new and existing clients to grow, win and add value to the sales process.
- Maintain a visible relationship with key strategic clients
- Deliver financial targets set within agreed budget with any variances anticipated, signalled, and aligned resolution in place
- Partner with Client Operations leadership team and/or Sales teams to provide SME support on new business activity including sign off on team size and contractual obligations
Critical knowledge, Skills & Experience / Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Demonstratable, deep understanding of Research Methodology, Data Analytics, Whitepaper Publishing, Talent Acquisition and RPO, including subject matter expertise in Data Analysis and Market Research Tools & Technology
- Proven track record in building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, delivery organizations, and other research partners
- Proven track record of delivering market research and/or data analytics solutions across multiple geographies or regions in client-facing role
- Continuous improvement and innovation led mindset – ability to identify whitespace, areas of opportunity or improvement. Intellectually curious when it comes to service improvement to deliver and evolve the service
- Demonstrated ability to build a position as a trusted advisor
- Ability to deliver results within a complex, matrixed environment, through driving performance across indirect reports and structures
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders towards a course of action
