THE ROLE
The Head of Product Development (PD) and Production is responsible for overseeing the development, sourcing, and production of Strathberry’s entire collection. This role ensures that the product creation process—from concept to finished goods—meets the company's standards for quality, design, and cost efficiency. The position requires a blend of creativity, technical expertise, and operational leadership.
Please note: This is a full-time, permanent position based in Edinburgh. We are currently operating a hybrid working approach with a minimum of 3 fixed days required each week working from our beautiful Townhouse in Edinburgh City Centre.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Development Leadership:
- Lead the PD team in creating innovative products, executing the design vision.
- Collaborate with the Design and Merchandising teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and aligned with seasonal concepts.
- Develop and maintain product timelines to ensure timely product delivery from inception to final production.
- Oversee material selection, sampling, and prototyping to guarantee product quality and aesthetic alignment.
- Manage the seasonal PD sampling budget.
Production Management:
- Manage the production critical path from SMS sample to final product, ensuring all items meet high-quality standards and are produced on time.
- Ensure a flexible and dynamic supply base to deliver the best quality, price, and ethical production practices.
- Work closely with the Merchandising team on stock planning, managing production capacity, and lead times.
- Maintain strong relationships with production partners.
- Manage costs and intake margin, look for cost-saving opportunities, and manage bulk negotiations.
Sourcing:
- Establish and maintain relationships with key raw material suppliers and manufacturers.
- Negotiate pricing, MOQs, and delivery terms with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Evaluate and select production partners based on quality, capacity, and sustainability practices.
- Regularly report on supplier performance to determine areas for improvement.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, manage, and mentor the product development and production teams.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative environment across the PD and Production departments.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and develop training programs to enhance team skills.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
- Work closely with Design, Marketing, and Sales teams to align on product USPs, feedback, and market demands.
- Collaborate with the Merchandising and Design teams to ensure alignment between product offerings and strategy.
Sustainability & Innovation:
- Stay ahead of industry trends, sourcing sustainable materials, and integrating eco-friendly practices in the production process.
- Advocate for sustainability throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to production.

- In-depth understanding of the sourcing process, supplier negotiations, and production timelines.

- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
