The Procurement team is repositioning itself to become a strategic enabler for BBC. The Head of Procurement – Commercial & Content will play a key part in this, acting as the primary procurement partner to our commercial arm, including BBC Studios and Studioworks and the BBC Content division

Main Responsibilities

Managing a large team and a influencing a budget of up to £500m, the Head of Procurement will develop and implement procurement strategies for their business areas, to drive value from the supplier ecosystem whilst managing relevant spend categories pan-BBC. They will act as trusted partner to senior stakeholders in their business areas, embedding procurement best practice as the BBC moves to deliver it’s Value for All Strategy.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Business partners senior stakeholders in key BBC division (s), accountable for the delivery of shared commercial business objectives,
  • Acting as an integral part of the stakeholder business division leadership team for a full procurement service (Sourcing through to Supplier Management)
  • Develops and owns strategy for appropriate key spend categories across all BBC Business areas, bringing market insights into the procurement function and stakeholder community.
  • Translates business challenges and opportunities, prioritising into commercial led value delivery, where appropriate, feeding requirements and into relevant category strategies owned by other members of the Procurement Senior Leadership Team.
  • Leads on complex sourcing activities and negotiations where required to support strategic procurement deliverables.
  • Management of key divisional suppliers and associated risks, working closely with Procurement Third Party Risk Management and Sustainability leads to proactively report on risks within the divisions supplier ecosystem.
  • Understands business budget and how Procurement supports its commercial channels, aligns with FBP on savings opportunities and budgetary risks, delivering significant commercial value by using various procurement techniques with the supplier ecosystem.
  • Owns the activity and savings opportunity pipeline and reporting for business division, ensures resource alignment against key priorities.
  • Acts as a role model , coaches and develops a high performing, commercially astute, business partnering focused team.
  • Keeps abreast of industry trends and best practices in procurement through external research and peer networking and incorporating them into the BBC procurement strategy.
  • Procurement ownership of internal Service Level Agreements where applicable, agreeing and reporting on Key Performance Indicators including savings that demonstrate output.
  • Works closely with Head of Procurement Enablement to ensure Procurement systems, data, and Accounts payable strategy is clear to and aligned to Business areas requirements.
  • Play a key leadership role across their area of Procurement, the business area they partner with and the broader Procurement team, role modelling our values and leadership behaviours.
  • As part of the Procurement Leadership team plays a key part in developing the procurement strategy and team culture as foundations for a high performing team.

Are You The Right Candidate?

The ideal candidate will be an experienced and inspiring Procurement Leader with strong business acumen and a track record of leading teams through procurement transformation who can bring sharp, sophisticated, and bold thinking to the BBC, informed by a strong understanding of the commercial landscape of content production and distribution.



  • Experience in a broadcasting/media role with deep understanding of Content Production & Media Distribution Procurement.
  • Substantive knowledge and practical experience of the full Procurement lifecycle in a commercial environment. (Sourcing and Supplier Management) including relevant practical experience of Supplier management approaches and techniques
  • Proven experience of developing and implementing procurement strategy and vision over the short, medium and long term within large, complex organisations
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills including proven ability to influence senior stakeholders within the BBC and BBC’s external partners
  • Evidence of working closely with Finance teams in a business partnering capacity with a clear knowledge of Procurement impact on budgets, EBITDA and commercial revenue streams.
  • Proven experience of leading, driving and delivering change in complex organisations and Procurement teams
  • Experience of preparing reports, presentations and papers, with the ability to convey complex information in simple terms to a range of audiences
  • Demonstrates values and behaviours in line with BBC’s Code of Conduct and Values.

Salary: £95000 - £110000
