Head of Organisational Development (Chief People Officer)
HQ-based (Maidenhead); Group role so international travel but not extended periods.
Salary Up to £100,000 + benefits, equity participation against key milestones.
An unusual, exciting and new role, a crucial member of the nascent group leadership team, and critical to the continued successful development of our widely respected business.
MCFT (or McFarlane Telfer) is a service business, dealing in a specialist field (commercial kitchens) with a complex supply chain and a potentially significant impact on customer experience as well as regulatory compliance. Our key product is our People, working as a high-performing team and yet still down to that one technician, walking into a problem and walking out with everyone smiling. We do that and we grow.
As the result of 20 years of growing investment in people (evidenced by multiple awards, being the only government-approved apprenticeship employer-provider in the industry, and the approach replicated in all territories), the business has grown organically, in the UK and overseas to our current headcount of 450.
Coupled with the development of industry-specific software, the company's unique service approach has been welcomed by customers and there is clear and growing demand for further high-quality delivery.
One of the more significant challenges we see in the next decade, as we continue to double in size every 3 years, is the guided and controlled development of our organisation: its structure, its continued culture, its development and pathways for all tiers to progress, whether specialist or generalist, domestically or overseas; the recruitment of further generations of our technical experts, as well as the next adventurers, growing, managing, leading our business.
This is not a conventional HR role – it's not about contracts and compliance; it is partly about L&D because the successful and financially viable development of technicians, wider workforce and future leaders will be key and will need agile and clever planning.
Very importantly, it's about an individual shaping the future, a dynamically-developing organisation chart and then about succession – what will people need in order to be ready for which role, crucially, just as they become needed. And this is an international role – responsible for, in touch with and visiting all territories, at their different stages of maturity.
We have an outstanding and driven team in now 9 countries, providing a unique service solution based on integrity and transparency.
Could you be the person to lead and safely deliver our continued very rapid workforce growth?
