Head of IT
Buckinghamshire (Hybrid)
Permanent Role: £70k Plus Package

The Head of IT is responsible for overseeing the strategic and operational management of the IT department. This role involves leading and managing the IT team to ensure the effective delivery of IT services and support across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities for the Head of IT:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement the IT strategy in alignment with the organisation's goals and objectives. Identify and recommend new technologies and process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Leadership and Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the IT team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Ensure the team is equipped with the necessary skills and resources.
  • Budget Management: Prepare and manage the IT department's budget. Optimize resource allocation to achieve maximum value and efficiency.
  • Technology Management: Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s IT systems, and applications. Ensure systems are secure, reliable, and scalable.
  • Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with key technology vendors and service providers. Negotiate contracts and ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate IT risks, including threats. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Project Management: Oversee the planning and execution of IT projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with other departments to understand their technology needs and develop solutions that support business objectives. Communicate IT initiatives and performance to senior management.
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends. Evaluate and implement new solutions that drive business value and competitive advantage.

Skills required for the Head of IT:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing IT strategies and road maps.
  • Strong knowledge of IT applications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with budget management and vendor negotiations.
  • Certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CISSP, or similar are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing, data analytics, and digital transformation.
