Head of HR - NGO

Our client is an NGO working on education programmes in several African countries, aiming to improve early childhood care and education. They are seeking an interim Head of HR and L&D to join the team.

You will report to the Head of Operations/COO and be accountable for all HR, people, and organisational requirements to enable the organisation to reach its strategic goals. This includes identifying and driving strategic and tactical HR initiatives, as well as supporting other programmes that will impact the organisation and its people.

You will manage a team including an L&D Manager, HR Coordinator, Travel Coordinator, and HR Officer.

Responsibilities:

• Work with leadership to create an HR strategy (and related initiatives) that build the capabilities and capacity of the organisation to deliver on strategic goals.
• Create a collaborative working environment and culture.
• Continue to develop a culture that supports our growth strategy.
• Develop the Performance Management strategy and approach (process, systems, and behaviours).
• Support the L&D Manager in creating a Leadership Development and Learning Development strategy.
• Ensure a full suite of accessible, up-to-date HR policies that comply with all legislation within the countries they operate in.

Requirements:

• Excellent people person with significant strategic HR and people management experience.
• Experience working in the global South with a diverse workforce in challenging environments.
• Experience leading an HR function within an NGO/social enterprise.
• Ability to work across a diverse, multi-ethnic team.
• Ability to manage a complex and varied workload and deliver under pressure.
• Ability to travel frequently to Ghana, Uganda, and other locations across Africa.

Details:

• Start date: ASAP
• Duration: 3 months with potential for extension.
• Day rate: Up to £375 Ltd / £275 PAYE.
• Location: London or Africa (preferably East Africa).
