Job description

  • Salary: £50k - 60k per year + Excellent Benefits

Elevation Recruitment are delighted to be supporting this fast growing and ambitious SME business in Barnsley as they look to recruit a new Head of Finance into the team. This hands-on leadership role is suited for a dynamic individual who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Reporting straight into the Managing Director and directly responsible for 1 member of staff, this all round number 1 finance role will be pivotal in helping the business plan and grow into the future. You will take full ownership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial management, strategic planning, and business partnering across all departments. The initial focus will be to improve current processes and financial reporting methodologies in order to provide timely and robust MI to aid business strategy.

The role is predominantly office based but there is some flexibility to work hybrid as well.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing finance team
  • Production of Monthly Management Accounts (Including profit & loss and balance sheet) and board pack
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Variance analysis (Actual Vs Budget) along with supporting commentary
  • Production of annual statutory accounts
  • Production and monitoring of KPIs
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Cash flow management/ forecasting
  • Finance business partnering/ collaboration with procurement, logistics, and warehouse departments to help drive cost efficiencies, improve margins, and support operational decision making
  • Financial modelling/ Scenario modelling, providing actionable insights to support business decisions
  • Shape and implement financial strategies aligned with company growth objectives
  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations including, AR/AP, payroll
  • Managing tax compliance
  • Maintain strong financial controls, ensure compliance with UK financial regulations, and lead internal audit readiness
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives
  • Evaluate and enhance financial systems, tools, and processes to support scalability and efficiency

Qualifications & Experience:

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified (Qualified by Experience will also be considered)
  • Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role
  • Strong grasp of financial strategy, budgeting, modelling, and commercial analysis
  • Experience leading finance teams
  • Business partnering experience with non-financial stakeholders
  • High proficiency in Excel and financial systems
  • Experience of dealing with stock/ inventory management
  • Commercially minded with a strategic outlook
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and hands-on in approach
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to influence at all levels
  • High integrity, professionalism, and commitment to ethical standards.
  • Adaptable and resilient in a fast-evolving business landscape
