Job Title: Head of Electrical Service

Salary Range: £52029 - £65691 per annum plus 10% market supplement

Permanent – Fulltime 36 hours per week

Location: Wandsworth

Objective of role

Working as the manager of a small professional electrical team, you will be responsible for the provision of a safe, reliable and efficient electrical service to the borough’s 33,000 tenants and leaseholders.

These systems include rewiring of individual dwellings, door-entry systems, emergency systems including fire alarms, emergency lighting, automatic smoke ventilation systems, CCTV, integrated reception systems and lightning protection. You will also attend incidents involving major supply failures to coordinate on-site actions to enable reinstatement of supplies, which may involve liaison with external agencies. You will oversee the running of maintenance contracts as well as renewal and refurbishment contracts.

About the role

Duties include managing a deputy head of electrical services, two senior electrical engineers, and five electrical engineers; liaison with and monitoring of contractors to ensure their prompt attendance to breakdowns; ensuring effective repair works are completed according to agreed schedules and managing maintenance visits and statutory inspections. Staff management experience is essential as you will carry out the full range of management functions from having regular supervision meetings and arranging training and support, to performance management and disciplinary action. You will be responsible for overseeing electrical installation and refurbishment works and have experience of managing budgets and contractor payments. You will be responsible for the preparation of specifications for the tendering of capital works and the assessment of tender bids. You will attend evening meetings with tenants, leaseholders, contractors, consultants and councillors to explain how schemes will affect them and their property.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

You will be qualified to at least HNC/HND standard or equivalent in electric or electronic engineering or have qualifications in electrical testing procedures in accordance with the 18th Edition of IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).

You will also have extensive knowledge of electrical services within housing properties and estates ranging from Victorian houses to modern high-rise developments.

You will have a detailed knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety, electrical regulations and leasehold management practice on electrical projects and support and maintenance issues.

You will also have knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation that could impact on electrical works, particularly in relation to building and fire safety.
