The role of the Head of Business Intelligence and Reporting Development is pivotal in managing and advancing the Group's Business Intelligence (BI) and Reporting Development functions. This senior leadership position is responsible for driving team performance, developing innovative BI solutions, and ensuring that data-driven insights are integral to the organisation's decision-making processes.

The postholder will lead a dynamic team, fostering an inclusive and innovative culture that promotes professional growth and staff well-being. They will manage recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies, ensuring that a high-performing team is in place. The role requires the development and implementation of BI solutions, including interactive dashboards using tools such as SQL and Power BI, to meet organisational objectives and improve service delivery.

A significant aspect of the position is engaging with stakeholders, translating their business requirements into actionable data solutions, and providing analytical support across various care groups. This includes developing customised reports to enhance patient outcomes and organisational efficiency. The postholder will also be instrumental in benchmarking performance against national standards.

This is a Group-wide role across multiple sites. The Information Services teams are based at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham Hull and New Beacon House, Scunthorpe. Teams run a hybrid of office and remote working arrangements.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead and manage the Business Intelligence and Reporting Development teams, fostering an innovative and inclusive culture. Set clear objectives aligned with group priorities, promote teamwork and ensure effective communication across the team and wider department.
  • Lead the design and implementation of user-centric BI solutions using industry best practice toolsets. Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into data-driven solutions, ensuring compliance with data quality standards and governance.
  • Lead the development and optimisation of data models and flows to ensure data consistency, integrity, and scalability. Provide oversight on cloud analytics projects focusing on data management and drive the implementation of data security measures to ensure compliance with GDPR and NHS standards.
  • Provide analytical support to care groups and operations, focusing on key performance indicators, service development and mortality data, leading development of customised reports to support evidence-based decision-making to improve patient outcomes.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development by staying informed of best practices in the healthcare sector, adhering to the NHS code of conduct for managers and participating in objective setting across the team, aligned with the Groups strategic objectives.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree in Information Management, Data Science, Business Intelligence, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (e.g., courses in leadership, management, or technical expertise related to BI tools and technologies).


Desirable

  • Evidence of recent and ongoing personal development
  • Evidence of NHS national guidelines
  • Relevant professional qualifications in Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, SQL certification).


Knowledge

Essential

  • Extensive experience in leading and managing Business Intelligence teams, preferably within a healthcare environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing BI solutions using industry standard tools
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data governance standards, including NHS regulations, GDPR, and data quality standards
  • Proven track record of translating business requirements into effective data-driven solutions.
  • Experience in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, particularly with clinical, operational, and senior leadership teams.
  • Knowledge of performance management, benchmarking, and Integrated Performance Reporting (IPR) within healthcare or similar settings
  • Familiarity with cloud integration projects and management of cloud-based BI solutions.

  • Ability to apply analytical skills to complex problem solving in a structured manner
  • Excellent report writing skills through the use of a renowned report writing tool
  • Strong IT Skills

  • Expert in writing SQL scripts to underpin reporting requirements and management information
