The Head of Business Development will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction and driving business development activities across ASCO. This leadership position is responsible for implementing best practices, focusing on lead generation, enhancing lead conversion, and spearheading profitable new business growth across Oil and Gas, New Energy, and other key industry sectors. In this capacity, the individual will lead business development initiatives, mentor teams, and support senior leadership in delivering global opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Growth: Identify and capitalise on new business opportunities to drive profitable growth. Focus on lead generation and conversion to build a strong sales pipeline, while also leveraging cross-selling opportunities to maximise client value.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Lead and coordinate business development activities across the UK organisation, ensuring effective pipeline management. Work closely with operational, legal, and commercial teams to ensure seamless client onboarding and smooth sales execution. Additionally, represent the organisation as a senior leader at external events, including conferences, trade shows, and industry forums.
  • Strategy: Partner with Heads of Departments to develop and implement cohesive and effective sales strategies. Craft long-term plans for market entry and growth, adjusting them as market conditions evolve. Support the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) in identifying and executing global business development opportunities.
  • Process: Lead initiatives to continuously improve business development processes, from tendering and proposals to the full sales lifecycle. Ensure the effective use of the organisation’s CRM system to track, manage, and drive business development activities.
  • Governance: Ensure compliance with Group Contracting Protocols and Delegation of Authority. Maintain the highest standards of governance and compliance in all commercial activities.
  • Industry Representation: Represent the organisation as a thought leader at industry events, panels, and conferences, enhancing visibility and fostering industry relationships.
Skills And Competencies
  • A demonstrated history of successfully delivering profitable new business growth, particularly in complex sectors.
  • Strong networking abilities paired with excellent communication and public speaking skills, adept at representing the organisation in various settings.
  • Expertise in leading and managing business development teams within the energy or industrial services sectors.
  • Extensive experience in negotiating, managing strategic improvements, and developing sales teams.
  • Experienced in leading at all levels with a strong ability to engage and mentor teams.
  • A history of successfully developing personnel into senior positions, enhancing leadership depth within the organisation.
  • Deep understanding of the energy sector and other industrial sectors, combined with strong commercial insight to drive growth.
  • Experience across the full sales lifecycle, from lead generation to closing.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to dynamically pursue new opportunities.
  • Proactive and responsive in supporting stakeholders and ensuring success.
  • Confident in addressing challenges with customers and colleagues, navigating difficult conversations to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Inquisitive and driven to challenge existing practices and continuously improve.
