Job description

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Head of Business Development - Defence.


This is a new position and will play a critical role in driving revenue growth and expanding The MTC's Defence Sector market share.


This is a fantastic opportunity for a strategic, results-focused Head of Business Development with a proven track record of success in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.


This position will suit an individual with strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, as well as a deep understanding of the industry and competitive landscape.


This role is a Player-Coach, and you will be responsible for leading, inspiring, and developing a team, as well as having an element of individual revenue target contribution.


You’ll have strong stakeholder management skills and build key internal and external relationships, including working closely with the Managing Director – Defence, and Director of Business Development.


Your main responsibilities will include:
  1. Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of business development professionals. Foster a culture of performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  2. Revenue Growth: Drive initiatives to achieve sales targets through new client acquisition, upselling, and cross-selling. Oversee the development of proposals and pitches to secure new business.
  3. Performance Metrics: Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to business development activities. Use data to make informed decisions and adjust strategies accordingly.
  4. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive business development strategies aimed at expanding the company’s footprint and revenue. Identify and evaluate market trends, competitive landscape, and potential growth areas.

This position will suit an experienced Head of Business Development, with proven success within the defence sector.


You’ll have strong leadership skills, and be someone who inspires teams, leads by example, and has a passion for developing people.


We’re looking for somebody with:
  1. A wealth of experience in business development or sales roles within the Defence industry, including prime contractors and/or government.
  2. Proven track record of significantly contributing to business growth and profitability – management and delivery of multi-million-pound pipelines of innovative research and development.
  3. Experience of leading and developing high-performing teams and encouraging teamwork and collaboration.
  4. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  5. Proficient in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Analytical skills to interpret market data and translate into actionable strategies.
  7. Entrepreneurial innovative mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  8. Collaborative, working effectively across departments and with external partners.
  9. Resilient, capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Desirable:
  1. Experienced practitioner and advocacy of Miller-Heiman is desirable.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in a Business or Engineering related subject. An MBA or similar advanced degree is highly desirable.
