Job description

Salary: £59,644 (London) / £55,890 £56,866 (National) per annum
Hours: 35 per week
Contract: Fixed-term for 18 months (until December 2026)

Office locations: London or Bristol
Please note, the successful candidate will be expected to carry out two days in-person working per week on average which will include attendance at your office location.
Flexible working arrangements can be discussed and agreed with the line manager subject to role and business needs.

An opportunity has arisen at the National Housing Federation (NHF) for the role of Head of Building and Fire Safety programmes. This position is within the policy team and plays the leading role in developing building and fire safety policy positions that are both effective for housing associations and ensure the safety of residents within a complex policy and regulatory landscape.
The NHF is the voice of housing associations in England. We are the trade body to almost 600 housing associations, who have grown from philanthropic roots to provide 2.6 million homes to around six million people. You can find further information about the NHF on our website.

Key elements of the role:
  1. Setting the NHF's strategy for responding to and shaping the policy agenda on building safety, with clear objectives, milestones and evaluation.
  2. Leading a cross-organisational programme group to deliver the NHF's strategy for this work.
  3. Ensuring there is a co-ordinated and strategic response from the NHF on all building safety issues and the challenges arising from it.
  4. Ensuring Leadership Team and the Board are kept abreast of key matters of interest, risks and challenges arising from this work.

The successful candidate:
  1. Will be able to demonstrate they can develop evidence-based policy positions working with a range of stakeholders.
  2. Can develop and lead a complex programme of work and a group of colleagues to deliver against multiple priorities to very high standards.
  3. Can establish relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders that result in collaborative solutions to complex issues.
  4. Understands the housing association sector and the policy and regulatory landscape for building safety.
  5. Has knowledge and awareness of the role of national government and the ability to translate how their policies, funding and actions impact on housing associations.
  6. Has an ability to think strategically while having a strong grip of operational implications of policy changes.
  7. Possesses strong communication skills including public speaking and writing for a range of audiences.
