Overview of the job

The job holder will report directly to the Area Executive Director and will be part of the Area Executive Senior Management Team, accountable for the performance and development of prisons and probation services within the Area. This is a leadership role, managing and developing an immediate team and establishing strong working relationships with the Area Executive Senior Management Team.

The job holder will be responsible for the management, oversight, and development of the Area Executive Office function, ensuring work is progressed and prioritised effectively. They will make sound judgements on decisions that they can make on behalf of the Area Executive Director.

Responsibilities, Activities and Duties

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities, and duties:

  1. Providing strong leadership to the immediate Area office team.
  2. Management of the Area Executive Office to ensure that the Area Executive Director is fully supported.
  3. Strategic and business planning for the Area.
  4. Playing a key role in the continuous improvement of the Area.
  5. Working with performance leads and teams to oversee performance, assurance, and risk management.
  6. Representing the Area Executive Director, undertaking activities on their behalf.
  7. Managing the Area Executive Office’s relationship with headquarters.
  8. Providing advice and briefings to HQ and Ministers.
  9. Building productive working relationships with the Area Executive Senior Management Team.
