We are looking for 2 emerging UK-based moving-image curators (individuals, or collectives of 2-3 people), with limited industry curatorial experience, who are interested in developing a socially engaged public event, with a focus on artists and works from the Global South and the diaspora.
The 2 selected events will be presented as part of Sine Screen’s Vulnerable Histories season, a series of public events exploring marginalised histories. The events will take place in April or May 2025 at Atlas Cinema. More details about the rest of our seasonhere , and find out more about Atlas Cinema and Brixton Community Cinema’s programmehere andhere .
We are open to proposals with various event formats – this can be a screening, artist talk, performance or workshop. And we’re particularly interested in curatorial projects that explore means of activating histories.
You will be working with curators from the Sine Screen team (Hester Yang, Cici Peng) and Abiba Coulibaly from Atlas Cinema who will provide support throughout the development process.
Each curator will receive a one-off £300 curation fee and be given a budget (up to £500) to cover event production costs including materials, licensing fee and artist fees. We can also offer a small transport bursary (up to £50) for curators based outside of London.
You need to be based in the UK to take part. We strongly encourage curators from Global Majority backgrounds to apply.
This Open Call is aimed at curators at an early stage of their practice, you should have less than 12 months of professional programming or curatorial experience to apply.
The applications will be chosen with equal weighting given to originality and resonance with the theme of ‘Vulnerable Histories’.
