Job description

As the Group Health & Safety Director, you will be a member of the senior leadership team and will report directly into the board. You will be responsible for driving and implementing a world class safety strategy across the UK and International business for all projects with a focus on shaping long-term operational strategies and aligning operations with business objectives. You will lead and develop the safety team to ensure the highest levels of safety whilst promoting and encouraging new initiatives and strategy. Alongside this you will ensure the business is operating in line with the most up to date regulations, educating our site teams and delivering works with the highest level of safety standards.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Provide direction, oversight and guidance for all aspects of health and safety within respective sectors of the international business.
  • Create and implement an effective Health and Safety strategy. Take a lead on rolling this out within the international business and work with UK Health and Safety Lead to roll this out within the UK business. Work collaboratively and take the lead with the site and health and safety team to ensure a successful delivery of strategy on site to meet agreed targets.
  • Set targets to measure performance and drive continuous improvement throughout the international business.
  • Continually assess and review opportunities for health and safety improvements and share best practice across the organisation, ensuring the team sets an example and manages this, while aligning with UK projects.
  • Ensure the international and UK teams are kept updated and educated on health and safety matters and ensure this is effectively communicated to site teams for implementation in day-to-day works.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, proactive working, and continuous improvement across the business with an aligned approach to work of the highest standard.
  • Take ownership for providing the best possible service and contributing towards a culture of excellence by supporting with the development of new systems, tools, and processes, monitoring and evaluating progress, and applying lessons learnt.
  • Ensure regular reviews on safety processes to identify any gaps or areas for process improvements.
  • Lead engagement with key stakeholders in the international business to drive a positive health and safety culture for all levels of stakeholders, internally and externally.
  • Ensure effective team management, including overseeing projects/contracts compliance & performance, monitoring department budget costs, and ensuring client needs are met.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant current business issues and keep abreast of all changes in the sector including legal, technical, and contractual trends while supporting the UK and international health and safety team.
  • It is expected that all of your behaviours and day-to-day activities will be underpinned by the blu-3 company core values.

What we’re looking for:
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualifications and memberships in construction, safety, and/or risk management such as NEBOSH Diploma and IOSH.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience within a similar role in the construction, civil engineering, or related industry.
  • Proven experience within the construction and civil engineering industry with a strong understanding of data centres.
  • A strong technical knowledge and extensive experience across relevant health and safety legislation, compliance, and regulations with prior experience demonstrating these within a similar role.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing large teams and driving for the highest levels of safety across the organisation.
  • Experience in influencing, engaging, and coaching senior management and site-level operations.
  • Previous experience in developing and growing a team, successfully developing and progressing individuals from graduate programmes and high potential employees to build their knowledge and experience towards being future leaders and experts in their field.
