Group Head of Regulatory Affairs

Salary: £100,000–£130,000 (flexible for exceptional candidates)

Location: London - Hybrid working; minimum 3 days per week in the office

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

I am exclusively mandated by my client, a market-leading energy and sustainability group, to recruit a Group Head of Regulatory Affairs. This forward-thinking organisation provides innovative solutions for large-scale energy consumers, enabling clients to achieve net-zero emissions and driving energy trading and investment opportunities across global markets.

The Role

This is a strategic, commercially focused role that requires a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks and their practical applications to business growth. A strong background in the commodities sector is essential. Reporting to the Head of Commercial/COO, you will:

Regulatory Expertise:

  • Act as the go-to regulatory specialist, researching, interpreting, and applying complex regulations across 11 European markets, with plans for further expansion into LatAm, the Middle East, and the US.
  • Identify and translate regulatory opportunities into commercial ventures, ensuring alignment with business growth strategies.

Commercial Strategy:

  • Partner with the Head of Commercial to explore new trading ventures and growth opportunities in the commodities space.
  • Horizon scan for market trends, aligning regulatory frameworks with strategic goals and identifying competitive opportunities.

Policy Application:

  • Communicate the commercial relevance of regulatory policies to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with trading and operational objectives.
  • Contribute to the business's mission of helping clients decarbonise and maximise trading opportunities.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Work closely with trading and risk teams to embed regulatory compliance and opportunity within business operations.
  • Lead and develop a collaborative culture within the Regulatory Affairs team, fostering innovation and operational excellence.

About You

You are a regulatory professional with a strong focus on the commodities sector, combining commercial acumen with a passion for creating business opportunities through regulatory insight.

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience:

  • 8–9 years of relevant experience in regulatory advisory roles within commodities, energy, or trading sectors.
  • A proven ability to identify and deliver commercial outcomes through regulatory expertise.

Skills:

  • Entrepreneurial and proactive, with strong horizon scanning and market analysis capabilities.
  • Exceptional ability to interpret, digest, and communicate complex regulations in a practical, actionable manner.
  • Detail-oriented, capable of working through high volumes of regulatory material.

Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of European regulatory frameworks, with specific expertise in the commodities sector.
  • Adaptability to assess theoretical knowledge and translate it into tangible business applications.
