Group Financial Controller - Exclusive Opportunity
JS Recruitment are partnering exclusively with a £17 million turnover SME operating in the construction industry, based near Wakefield. They require a commercially astute Group Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations across the group.
The successful candidate will be head of the finance department, managing a team of three and responsible for ensuring financial compliance, preparing and reviewing management accounts, board reports, intercompany cash flow management and forecasting, and processing payroll.
This role requires a confident professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to strategically guide a Finance Department within a growing group of companies.

Responsibilities as Group Financial Controller:
- Financial Compliance: Ensure adherence to financial regulations, standards, and policies.
- Budgeting & Reporting: Assist in budget preparation, monitor variances, and promote cost-saving initiatives.
- KPI & Policy Management: Develop and manage KPIs, SLAs, and company policies related to remuneration, expenses, and procurement.
- Team Leadership: Lead and support the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review management accounts, P&L statements, balance sheets, and forecasts.
- Board Presentations: Compile and present board packs, providing financial insights and strategic guidance.
- Cash Flow Management: Oversee daily cash flow reporting and ensure financial stability.
- WIP & P&L Analysis: Generate and analyze project profitability reports.
- Accounting Systems: Manage company accounting systems, including SAGE 50 and related platforms.
- Stakeholder Relations: Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including external accountants and banks.
- Debt Management: Oversee accurate debt reporting and address payment issues.
- Compliance & Reporting: Handle PAYE, VAT, CIS, and CITB submissions, payroll, and pension management.
- Bank Reconciliation & Journals: Perform bank reconciliations and apportionment journaling.
- R&D Reporting: Contribute to R&D returns across multiple companies.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional accounting qualifications (e.g., ACCA, CIMA) are highly desirable or QBE.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar financial controller role, preferably in construction.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in SAGE 50 and other financial management software, and advanced MS Excel knowledge.
- Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial compliance, VAT, and CIS requirements.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience in leading and managing a finance team.
- Analytical Abilities: Excellent analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attitude: Positive, proactive, motivating, and determined.
